Yes it is, and no it isn't. (I voted no.)

In general terms, it could be considered offensive. In your specific case, where it's a nickname you've embraced and had for a very long time, and it's not intended in a negative way, of course it isn't.

I think your idea is cool.

Dye your hair pink and chartreuse and your good to go, just make sure the 5 ball is orange.
They will find something offensive about something related to pool.
Most likely it will be the shaft isn't long enough and the taper too thin.

I think it would work in the "pool world", because a lot of people know you. Branching out into the general population might be more difficult.
That’s exactly what my biggest concern is. Here on AZB it’s automatic, outside of here it might be an issue. the poll results are encouraging.

I have the time to do something with this idea over the next couple years. I’ve learned a lot about doing biz offshore and importing, sadly not everything can be made in America. But I’ll do my best.

thx very much
fatboy

I can only speak for myself but it's not offensive to me. Here on AZB it's a very recognizable brand. If someone told me that Eric has his own line of cues, Id say Eric who, I know a bunch of Eric's. BUT if the same was said with Fatboy I'd know exactly who that is.
If the general public recognized you as Fatboy like here, you would be the richest man on the planet. I also don't do any of the social media things but I do believe that in this day if you try and build a brand without the other social media platforms it would be an uphill battle.
I’ve never used social media once.

having said that, it’s impossible to build any biz without it unless you are selling munitions to mercenaries

I’ve pondered doing something with the Fatboy brand/ I did the 10’ tourneys at Derby with Greg and they were fantastic.

I only ask this question because everyone is so hyper sensitive to words these days I don’t want to use a word that will be counterproductive in any marketing campaigns.

So because I’m out of touch with the current parlance of our times. I’m asking everyone here to please answer this. Even if you hate me, that’s ok. Your voice matters more. If you love me, you matter too.

I’m in a spot in my life where I have the time, connections, and other biz related things to turn Fatboy into a brand. A brand which can manufacture, resell, invent new products related to pool for residential and commercial types of applications. Tables, cues, cases, etc etc etc.

I’ve never been on FB in my life or any social media but here. And I’ve been successful on AZB, I feel as though I could be successful on larger platforms. Sure there’s more competition to get clicks, but Fatboy creates good content & id be competitive there. (I just don’t want the personal attention).

However if I were to launch a brand Fatboy or Fatboy’s (something ) is that name cool these days

I’m biased as it’s my nickname and I like it when people call me Fatboy.

Thanks for the feed back

Fatboy<———while not PC , ok possibly the lease PC person, I wouldn’t market a name brand out side the lines. I’m smart enough to play fair and by the rules & norms of society
Eric,
Never forget this. EVERYONE is offended by something.

However, you have a brand in place and it's a popular brand.
Ask me if a team name being called over a loud speaker "table 2 for Our huge hole is made for your balls" "2 sticks 2 dicks" "I stroke my stick daily" etc.

Your brand is defined, it's a gambling brand, it loves pool, and it appeals to a large audience.

For sure , I’m helpless when it comes to that sort of thing. 😕
If you get someone to help with the social media platforms I suggest someone who knows your brand(you) and you trust. But since I don't do any social media stuff maybe navigating media is more important than knowing pool.

If you search skinny bob's billiards on facebook, it goes to a webpage that asks you if you are looking for help. You have two choices, get help or show search results. If you look for fatboy bait on facebook, it goes straight to the webpage. Obesity is much more of a problem in the US than people who are skinny. I can guess the people in control of facebook are overweight and don't see the need for help.

Had a fraternity brother, Mike, who was a couple years younger than me, smaller, in better shape, etc. He was always telling me, "Jaybird, just look around, there aren't any old, fat people." I figured Mike would live to 90 at least, but then he got Alzheimer's and died about 5 years ago. He was a classic type A personality, always agitated, on the go, worrying about things. Just goes to show you.

My guess is that if you use the name FatBoy with a "logo" in the shape of "Minnesota Fats" you enhance the FatBoy brand when related to pool without tying it to "fat people".

No, not at all. Only issue I see is one of my HD motorcycles was a Fat Boy. I’m not sure of the exact spelling, one word or two, but it’s possible Harley may have it copyrighted.

To me it’s a great moniker, go for it if it’s not an issue.

Edit: To bad I didn’t read all the posts before chiming in. I see the H-D issue has already been made…oops!
