Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I didn't see mentions of it in the corresponding thread or didn't find a topic just for this either.

To make the story short: US Open 10-Ball had magic racks. Mark Griffin and the crew thought that since magic rack (46:30 or so) gives everyone the perfect rack, they can make the opponent rack.

But if the opponent racks, he might as well make it so that you won't make a ball in the side pocket. Shane claims, and I don't have reasons to doubt him, that 95% of the players know how to manipulate the rack and many of them do. That's why he insists that it should always be rack your own.

I must admit that I share (or at least shared) Mark's illusion that very few pro players would cheat this blatantly even if given the opportunity. Of course, I have nothing against rack your own per se. But I've gotta say I'm a bit surprised that cheating is so wide-spread as SVB's comments make it seem.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately a 9 ball rack is very easy to manipulate. If you play rack your own 9ball tournaments if you don't know how to give yourself a rack that will make a ball you are giving up a handicap. :frown:

The pros without a doubt have figured out how to rack themselves friendly racks and use this to their advantage.

10 ball is much better in this respect.
