SVB and Fedor- stock cues?

I was reading another thread and a poster stated that if we believed that they were using standard cuetec equipment then we were naive.

I wondered if people know if that is the case or not, I recall seeing Fedor show Karl(what’s in your bag) his new truewood cutec before it hit the stores I got the impression it was just the standard equipment.

Am I being naive, is their equipment a long way from what Jo public gets to buy?

How would they be different? I've seen SVB's cue up close and it looks like a stock Cynergy to me. Don't know what tip but i thinks its a HOW.

I bet it is available to buy. Might be some customization (extensions, wrap etc) but nothing that couldnt be made again. I have the same exact cue A. Fisher uses. Now, someone like, strickland....good luck trying to figure that cue out.

Can’t say exactly, but at last years Andy Mercer tourney at the Rumrunner in LV, I was watching him play a few matches from about 6 ft away for a few hours. I use a Cynergy CF shaft with modified ferrule myself & I was curious & looking close - his cue looked like a bone stock cuetec to me.

Also when he had a jump shot come up, his opponent happened to have Propel jump cue assembled & out, and SVB just borrowed his vs getting his own one out. Seems like a good indication he’s using vanilla CT cues.

As a side note, it was weird but somehow encouraging to watch him miss a very basic shot on a barbox, casually rushed it and skipped his usual pre-shot routine. He’s apparently pretty much a normal human being 🤣

Cheers

I’ll just ask SVB in a couple days at derby. Simple. I’m not calling him to bother with this question. 99% chance it’s production everything

It is, and his older maple Cuetec r360 was also stock, from what he said one of his friends gave it to him and he used it for a while before the sponsor deal.

Now when Earl was with Cuetec, his break cue (at least a few of them) was stock Cuetec with the fiberglass, but his playing shafts were maple, not clad with fiberglass, with a very long taper almost to the joint.

Those guys may be using some pre-production stuff at times and there may be tweaks to their cues but I'm sure those tweaks will be made as a production signature model.

Funny thing about tennis at least, the manufacturers come up with new signature models all the time, but the pro players very often use an older design that they like that is painted to look like the new model. I'm guessing pro golfers and others end up doing similar things.

Fedor mentioned somewhere recently that he plays with a 30” Cynergy. He could be testing it for the public or it could be something they have just done for him. But I would assume they are largely stock cues but with as many tweaks than can be easily done.

That would be great. I figured they would be stock, which is why I was surprised in the post I saw saying they weren’t. Thanks

That older design theory seems to hold true for SVB. I thought he was playing with the ghost version when it came out only to go back to the black and white cue.

SVB gave me one of his cues years ago when he was staying with me, right when he signed on with cuetec. I still have that cue. It’s just a regular cue that was standard production at that time. Hits nice

Is it this one Fatboy?

This was one of the models he played with but not sure when. I like hitting balls with it.

He told me that in 2021 for the story I did on him. He wanted a longer shaft because of his height.

Fedor said he also uses a propel jump cue. He is sponsored by them but he sure makes jumping look easy...
Most taller A-Players can jump well, height makes it much easier.
It's us short guys (I'm 5' 8") that have to really practice to get good at it.
I'm old school, I can kick like a mf lol

Here’s the cue SVB left at my house-on purpose back in 2011(near as I can recall)

The tip is exactly how he used to keep his tips cut and crowned for years-back then. I like mine that way as well(long before I met SVB)

I’ve played a couple hours is all with this cue, it’s been played with a lot by SVB as he got it from his sponsor.

Looks 100% stock to me. Plays good. I doubt they are using one-off cues. One thing I do know is he gets cues, shafts before they go on the market through normal retail channels. But I don’t think he getting prototype stuff.

That’s what I have on this topic. I’ll ask him at Derby this week. There’s a chance it’s confidential information and of course if it is-it will remain so. I never betray SVB trust. I never made this public-but it’s 10+ years ago. Seems like it’s ok to show the pics and tell what I know on this particular cue.

Best
Fatboy<———doing the best I can.
