SVB to Kick Off High Run Attempts

No. These guys are trying to break records.
Well if we went crazy and applied the definition of the word "exhibition". Then yes, this is an exhibition. No different than anyone else live streaming attempts at a high run. At least in this particular case, the exhibitionists are being paid in some fashion and not merely video blogging table time.

I don't think so, but you will have to ask Freddie since this new "no outline, all that fits" idea is his proposal. The new rack will not have a ball on the foot spot, so a break ball partly occupying the foot spot is not preventing you from racking the 14 balls.

I suppose another question that comes up more often is whether a ball that has been spotted interferes with the rack under Freddie's proposal.
For clarity, I don’t want to use an outline at all. Either they interfere with the racked balls or not. Use a ballmarker. Rack the balls. If the 15th ball interferes, then the 15th ball goes to the head spot.

If an outline must be used, then I’m suggesting just the outline of the balls. Course that would mean an outline template need to be made. I’m sure Outsiville could whip one up.

One thing to remember about this sort of organized attempt is that if your goal is to run 500, for example, you will have about eight runs over 300 (on average) before you hit a 500. I imagine it would be frustrating to miss eight times after 300 but not get to the goal. I have to imagine it since I'll never actually see 300. ;)

In 1 out of 75 runs, SVB broke 300.

Does that suggest that it would take SVB about 8x75 = 600 attempts to break 500?

I did the stats for Schmidt's runs.......

.....From an open position, he was 50% to run 50 and 25% (more or less) to run 100.

JS was 50% to run 50, and 25% to run 100.
SVB was 50% to run 50, and 21% to run 100.

Good work Bob!!

Without the rack outline, lies the possibility for anyone to just leave the cue ball somewhere near the actual position of the future rack of balls to just play position anywhere near that new rack and pick up the cue ball, and play from the kitchen,
any object ball that they possibly couldn’t get a very good chance to make the object ball and successfully break open the next rack, nearly as well than as if he was playing from the kitchen.
Is this what happened to make John declare that his was a clean record?
Who knows?

At the risk of hijacking this thread more than I have (and I should have just started a new thread, but I was on my phone and had challenges), the JS 626 had a penciled outline.

Show just one picture of js shooting any shot during the 626 run that shows that Sardo rack outlined penciling. Case closed. No hijacking necessary.
I asked Jerry McWorter back when I watched it. Jerry said they penciled an outline. Case is closed. It wasn’t even an open case.

626 table?
Hi Danny!

Can you show a picture of Danny Harriman and XradarX standing side by side, holding today's copy of USA TODAY? Thought not! Case closed!

There is a reason why I never post in this forum anymore and it’s the nit picking, the pocket size, the cloth, the rails, the tips, the LD Shafts, the balls, polished balls, the wrap that SVB has with unicorn hair and everything else you have a slight problem with.

It truly is pathetic that our industry has come down to this. WHO GIVES A SHI@!!!

It’s an exhibition right? That is the main point. I honestly don’t care about anything else (the light BS arguments you have on here) that goes against the whole point of the goal of this!!! Like honestly it’s poisonous and detrimental.

Why can’t we just talk about the actual event and the promotion of pool through this event without nit picking every damn thing this is to pool!!!

Like seriously…. Are you all that mental?!?!

Can’t you just talk about the play of the players and their guts to do their best?
For the record the promoter here is one of the main nitpickers. The point about the rules is a fair one to bring up. Otherwise don't call it a 14.1 high run contest.

One thing I noticed is that Shane's CB placement for break shots was always for about the same cut angle (~30 degrees/half ball?) regardless of how close or far the break ball was from the rack.

Is that common practice? If so, is it because the half ball cut is the best combination of easy to hit and good carom power?

One thing I noticed at the American 14.1 was that many of the players were using a much shallower angle for their breaks but amping up the power.

At first I though I was seeing position play that had come up short but then noticed it was being done consistently.

I think the 14.1 tables at Derby City were always marked lightly with tailor's chalk. I know they were at least the first five years.

I played in the DCC 14.1 event at the EW and for a couple of years at the casino and do not recall any outline.

I understood that the players invited to this event have their expenses covered, and will also receive some cash for their runs, with the highest runs getting bonus money. Is that right?

This evening I was listening to some old-timers who played 14.1 during the 1960s and 1970s. They were a pretty funny bunch of guys. One of them said high runs in 14.1 are just plain boring, and no professional would choose to do it unless they were being paid for it. He gave Mosconi and another name I didn't recognize as examples of people who were paid to put in a minimum number of hours at their exhibitions, and that's when they'd run racks.

The part about very high runs receiving cash is correct.

You would have to ask the guys running the show. As long as players are up for it what does it matter. Personally I think the younger players coming up really like to push themselves and this is an event that could do just that. Besting ones selve may be more important to them then having the highest run. I’m hope to see some interviews to see what the players say and what goals they have in mind.

Several of the top guys appear to be revved up to participate purely out of love for the game and the challenge of it -- they really want to go after a high number as a matter of personal pride, as well as fan acclaim.

if the racking system is a template not a real rack
shouldnt any "record" have an asterisk ?

Maybe even someone new. I was really surprised at Oliver Szolnoki and the Polish contingent, and I'm sure there are new players waiting in the wings in Taipei, Philippines, etc.,

A couple of the Pinoys have expressed interest.

18,000 would be how many times the door was opened, not how many individuals attempted to open it once or more...

Is there a commonly accepted way to convert views into viewers in a credible manner?

I'm not a stat guy.
