SW Amboyna-- it's sold aready but pics are sure pretty

...

I had talked with him about it as well, infact, called the first time and he was on the phone with the purchaser, sure it pulled in a pretty penny as well, the one thing I don't like about SW is that Rings never match up!!! I talked to a guy who requested this done on a cue and still wasn't done

I've seen a couple of these Amboyna Southwests now. Held one in my hands about a month ago too and all I can really say is, they aren't really all that impressive. I mean, Amboyna burl is a beautiful wood as it has a truly wild figure to it. That is its beauty. The swirl. The irregularity in its grain.

Southwest makes a standard six point cue with very thin points. As well, they use the burl (at least in the few that I've seen) in the band and not the butt sleeve. As a result, you don't get to see a lot of the figure in the wood. Not to mention, the pieces they use don't seem to have much figure to being with.

Maybe I'm just being too harsh because I'm a burl lover but that's just my take.
