Has anyone ran a swiss rounds style pool tournament with handicaps before? Just wondering.

was thinking a 9 ball event with handicaps dependent on ratings
It could be done. However it’s kinda pointless. Here’s why,
Reason being is with a Swiss format there’s a zillion matches which have to be short or the tourney would last forever. Since short matches kinda level out the skill differential anyways having handicap short races in mass is more luck than skill type of tourney.
I suppose the upside is “anyone can win” the downside is talent and good play might not get rewarded for the aforementioned reasons.
There’s another format called “more Swiss” that can last 9-12 rounds(possibly more) and manage to have a bit longer races that wouldn’t take 3 months to run. Over 3 days probably 64 players would work in races to 7. If it was possible to put a shot clock and a racking clock(that takes longer than shooting sometimes) it’s possible. With no time controls it would still be difficult-thinking about it.
That’s about the best answer I have. It’s possible but not practical.
