It looks very nice. Good job.

very professional compared to some of the other regional league sites i've seen. nice work!

Hmm. I like the pool balls. I don't like the vertical navigation, though. The red buttons are way too big. They also include some duplicate links to what is already available across the top navigation. Some of these duplicates are not named consistantly either. This results in a confusing experience for visitors. If you prefer vertical navigation, I would lose the top navigation entirely and change the button style to be a little less gigantic. If you like the horizontal navigation, I would lose the vertical navigation.

getting better all the time

Much improved over the first (?) well, earlier draft. Now it says "pool" with the balls, and has a map of Florida next to the tap logo, so that's good also.

The dual navigation will be confusing though (horizontal & vertical). Again, I'd like to see something done that says pool with the menu, like:

if horizontal, accompany each choice with a ball to the left of the menu text - like a one ball next to Home, a 2 ball next to News, and so on.

if vertical, here's a couple of choices - for big buttons like you have, make them pool tables viewed from the top, or make the menu choices in text, separated by a pool cue lying on its side.

...and, I'd still like to see you get rid of the red, white & blue color scheme, which I realize you need to keep on the TAP logo, but that shouldn't drive your color scheme for the site; a pastel scheme would be better suited to South Florida...here's some RGB codes illustrative of what I mean:

RGB suggestions:
255/80/255
128/128/255
80/170/170
255/255/130
255/128/128

Good luck with the site!

Oh yeah? Well, Pennsylvania's own Ben Franklin said it best: "Half a Truth is often a great lie." However, Connecticut's Mark Twain points out that, "Honesty is the best policy - when there is money in it." ;)

Yeah?
Well...!
Well...

I will play the ultimate trump card. I am originally from Connecticut, so that means "Half a truth is often the best policy!"

Well, I lived in Pennsylvania, where "half a policy is often the truth." (Cf Congressman D. Flood)

Thanks everyone.

As far as the navigations. I'm designing the site for 1280 x 1024 resolutions. 800x600 is very out of date now, and I'm guessing that's what some of you might be using if you feel the red buttons are big.
As far as adding pool balls for each link - I just felt that idea was a little too over-used.
I may move those topward links to smaller text links at the very bottom, but it is common place for a site to have a set of 'buttons' and a set of links with many of the same address' as the buttons. I don't mind it.

I'm pleased to see that I can post a thread on AZ and get responces. And thanks for your suggestions.

I applaud the development effort for 1280 x 1024, however I was viewing your site at this resolution when I made the original comments. I think those buttons are huge.

They are really disproportionate to the amount of real estate you have to work with in the main information area. I don't think that they are necessarily too wide, but I think they are too high. I would remove the left indent and make the buttons flush with the edge of the larger content area. Then, I would reduce the height by about half and remove the spacing between them. Since the height would be reduced, I would also scale back the font for the button text as well. You may want to consider a roll-over effect for the buttons that could change the color of the text, or the background. Since the height would be less than they currently occupy, I would also use a background color to fill in the space below the buttons that provides a continuous sidebar area. That color should be similar to that of the buttons, but not necessarily the same.

I think the biggest visual issue is the conflicting vertical and horizontal navigation. You might consider moving the horizontal, top navigation to more of a footnote as footer navigation. This would let the vertical scheme act as the primary navigation with the footer links for back-up. I have done sites with both types of schemes and could direct you to those URLs if you are interested.

As far as buttons and text links sharing URLs, I agree. It is common since text may show up when an image doesn't load for some reason. Good backup. The two links (text and image) should have the same verbiage, though. If one says "Forums" the other should not say "Player Boards" or something.

FYI: I'm viewing at 1280 X 800 (wide screen laptop) and don't feel all that out of date. Website design should be inclusive, you want people to come look, right?

I took a break from being at the computer for a while, came back, fresh look at everything. Absolutly right about the nav. on top. I'm going to take it off, and just put some small text links at the very bottom.
I still feel like the buttons aren't THAT big. I mean, I know they're big, but I am kind of fond of that. I'm going to try and re-size it a bit, because it'd probably be better to have them a bit smaller considering what the site is for. I've been getting a little too used to designing the type of sites I've been designing lately (hip-hop related, mostly).

Thanks for the imput guys, for real.

working on those updates now, going to show you guys when it's done.
