Table Delivery Questions

Next Tuesday I'll take delivery of my table (see sig). I plan to take as many pictures of the setup as I can without annoying the workers. :-)

I already know to ask for some scraps from the end of the cloth (for jumps, etc.). I'm wondering a few things, though:
  1. I've heard that the words "Simonis" are printed on the back of the cloth. Can I have the cloth installed so that "Simonis" is seen on the top of the rails? I think I heard about that somewhere...
  2. What can be done at installation to tighten pockets? I don't want super-tight pockets, but I don't want buckets either. How tight will the pockets be by default?
  3. What other things should I observe, watch for, ask for, and ask about?

The last one is the catch-all, of course. Please let me know. I'd like to have a great, smooth experience and not miss anything.
 
I would check how the table plays, ie shoot corner to corner. Starting at Head rail rt pocket hitting the third dimond from the foot on the left rail with top and the CB should come back to the head rail oppsite corner.
again CB in corner pocket shoot a one rail bank by aiming at the #4 dimond (center pocket CB should hit about 1 1/2 inches above the side pocket tit) sending CB to the other corner on the same long rail these should be very close do these around the table.
When I bought my table the dimonds were off can you belive it?? I didn't notice it and neither did the Installer. It would only take a sec to walk around and measure all ot them.
Ask your Installer about releveling due to settleing (sic)? Most hace some policy.

the simonis logo on the felt is like a screen print or something. I wouldn't recommend putting in on top of the rails for it wears off very easily. I usually can rub it off with my finger if any is showing along the very bottom of the rail when I do an install. As for the pocket tightness, If the installers are so quallified they can add an extra facing to the pockets to tighten them up. Some installers however may not feel comfortable with this. After the table is installed and before the installers leave. Shoot a comple of balls starting at center of table and slow roll to the corners to make sure table is nice and level. look down the side rails and make sure they are perfectly aligned. Nothing worse than trying to bank a ball and missing cause a rail is not properly aligned.. Other than that enjoy your new table.

i do table installations myself. simonis is written on the playing surface side of the cloth...thats why it is usually seen on the bottom portion of the rails when you are playing. you can have the pockets shimmed to be as tight as you desire at the time of installation. the most imprtant thing to look for when the table is being set up is to make sure they level the frame and then make sure they level the slate. this is a seperate process. do not let them wait and try to level the table after they put the slate on...it may not play like it should (the table may seem to roll towards the middle). if you are having the table set up on carpet, it will settle some the 1st couple of weeks so it may roll off.....but you can put shims under it after it settles so that it will play level. hope this is helpful.

The day my table came it was sprinkling rain and the installers were in a hurry. Too bad fellas. I made darn sure the slate was dry before they installed the cloth and made sure the slate was dry and wiped down clean before they put it on too. Can't wait to see your pics. Best of luck with the new table iacas. As a matter of courtesy, try to have a straight in area for them to carry the heavy slate pieces. That's all I can think of. Cheers.
 
Okay, so my notes so far...

1. They should be able to shim the pockets. I'm still not sure what level of tightness I'm asking for, though - any help there? If a "bucket" is a 10 and "the tightest pocket you've ever seen" is a 1, I'm looking for something like a 5 or a 6.

2. Slow roll balls all over the table, especially in the corners. Good.

3. Forget the Simonis logo on the rails or anywhere else. Check.

4. Make them take their time and level the frame AND the slate separately. Got it.

5. Sight along the rails to ensure that they're straight. Okey doke.
 
One thing the table experts on here might want to comment on and advise you about is the cloth fold in the pocket opening. I've seen them done differently on tables I've played on and some pulled loose, some tended to catch on my hand when removing balls from the pocket.

very good point. Make sure you are happy with the way they do the pockets. Every installer does it differently

nothing else. the installers should know what their doing. just look the table over real well before they leave to note any dings or scratches or imperfections in the felt before they leave

Do what I did and video-tape the whole thing. It's like a felt replacement tutorial if I ever want to change anything myself...
