Table on a covered patio

I'm planning on getting a table for a covered patio. The patio is just covered, not enclosed. I was wondering if a normal table would be able to stand up to the temperature variations and humidity changes? Fortunately, I live in Southern California, so the variations are much less than most. I've seen "Indoor/Outdoor" tables, or just plain "Outdoor" tables, but all of these use some slate substitute or another. What I'm basically asking, is whether a table will last on a covered patio, or if I would shorten its lifespan to just a few years. Any mechanic who feels like responding, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks, Chris.

he's in Fla, has a patio table and can tell you all about it.

I live in the Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage area and have a Global bar box on my patio. I've had it for about 3 years now and aside from getting dusty, haven't noticed any deterioration. I do keep a very heavy vinyl table cover on it. But with temperatures as high as 120 degrees, I have to assume there is some cushion deterioration. I have Ridgeback rails and they appear to play as well as they did on day one. Would it be better for the table to be inside in a fairly constant temperature/humidity environment? Of course, but if you don't have the room for it - then it's the patio.
