Hi All !!,
I am the owner of cosmos billiards in Scranton, Pa. I have 16, 9ft Diamond Pros with gold cloth and 1 7 footer for the bar players. While i have always known that the diamonds bank differently then the Olhausens or Brunswicks, i was amazed to see just how much different they do play tonight when i visited another room.
First the Particulars:
I use Super Aramith Pro's with red circle cue ball, Simonis 860 Gold stretched to only 1.5 inches instead of the normal 2.5 inches it should be stretched. K-55 cushions common on all diamonds, and Vacuum the tables either everday or every other.
This room used Bruns. Cent balls, the 6-dot measle ball, and standard green 860 simonis that was normally stretched. The tables also were just vacuumed before i got there for my match.
Second things i noticed:
1.) The olhausen i played on the cue ball would typically, on a hard draw shot seem to spin in place for a split second before grabbing and flying back. This inability to grab was evident on the bed as well as the rails.
2.) The rails SUPER FAST and the bed very slow.
3.) Hard spin banks for one pocket or safeties in 9 ball seemed to skit 4-6 inches when coming off the rail on the bank. this skid allowed for HUGE amounts of english to be applied to the second rail if it made it that far and completely change the second outgoing angle after the second rail contact point. The law of opposite rails was multiplied CONSIDERABLY.
4.) In corillary, english applied to the rails seemed to skid up the rail more than mine do IF the rail was not compressed very far. This made soft spin shots to get back to the center spots on head and foot rails tough. It was easier to just cross the table twice to reach position instead of using english to just come off the rail. Now if your shot enabled you to compress the rail a bit you could get ANYWHERE on the table with english.
so from these interested observations what do you guys think the difference is.... especially with the cue ball sitting in place before drawing back or the spin on the rail issues?
Thanks
Greg
