I was wondering about that .... the date of the article. Are you guys sure this is current information? I saw this article:
https://www.phillyvoice.com/philly-billiards-scene-changes/
It was written in Feb 2015, and states that the owner of Tacony had signed a lease for a new place tentatively called Bluegrass Billiards, to open "this fall". Its now 3 years later.
Excerpt:
While the numbers suggest it might be time to kill the lights on the concept of the traditional pool hall, Dominic Monaco, former owner of Tacony Billiards, is stepping up to bat with defibrillators in hand.
Monaco is planning to open the pool hall space at the corner of Grant Avenue and Bluegrass Road this fall -- he's signed his lease and transferred his liquor license, he said, and is merely waiting in the wings for the landlord to finish gutting the building and pave a parking lot to accommodate patrons.
I checked Tacony's facebook page, and there are no recent posts, except some players reminiscing about the past. I didn't see anything about a new place.
Doing a google search for blue grass billiards Philadelphia returns no relevant hits.
I'm guessing that deal fell through long ago, unless you guys have some factual current information.

I assume by the name, they'll be using blue cloth on the tablesMy Philly buddy Mitch told me there’s a new room, BlueGrass, opening soon. That’s my current info.
The room is open on Saturday, 8-4, from 10 AM to Sunday at 2 AM. It was also open on Friday night. It is located at 9490 Bluegrass Street right at Grant Ave. The number is 215 - 904 - 7312. It appears to be many of the people from the old Tacony Billiards as well as much of the same equipment. When I called the person answered the phone and referred to the room as Tacony Billiards and then caught himself. I'm going to check it out tomorrow.
Mitch has no pool room or screen name. Can’t go through life like that.My Philly buddy Mitch
Sounds nice, but "not a lot of room between many of the tables" is unfortunate to hear. It just really takes away considerably from the overall playing experience, particularly for more serious players playing on a table next to recreation players. That latter often don't possess the common sense as far as player etiquette and giving the "right of way" to whomever is ready to shoot first, or knowing where not to stand when not shooting.Went to Bluegrass Billiards this morning. Since it is newly constructed everything is in immaculate condition. There are 24 Gold Crowns, all covered in new green Simonis, and 16 bar boxes, all Valleys or something close. They also have two billiard tables. There is a sizable bar that is open for partial service as well as a future snack bar that has some food and beverages. There are also dart lanes for both soft tip and steel tip darts. There are 20 foot ceilings so as the gentleman I played with said, the place feels cavernous. I got there at about 11:15 and there were probably about 8 people there. When I left at 2:30 there had to be about 35 or 40 people playing and there were a lot of vacant tables. The only real negative thing I saw is that there is not a lot of room between many of the tables.
The plan is to continue to be open on only Fridays and Saturdays for a couple of more weeks until all of the kinks get worked out.
