Tad Cue's Irish Linen Wrap ??

I just purchased an old Tad Plaine Jane cue.

The cue was refinished and the original linen wrap was cleaned.

About 6 inches from the butt section and forearm, the wrap is rough. I was told by a cue repair fellow that this may have been caused by water getting on the wrap?

He told me to try some wax paper on it, which I did and it made the wrap feel a little smoother. This repair person also said that he could put the cue on his high speed lathe and re-press it. Will this work ?

The cue I was told was made around 1982, so I'm sure it has old Irish Linen on it, which I would like to keep.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. The cue plays great !

Thanks, Tommyd1

Tad's Linen Wrap

I would really appreciate any comments on how to get this wrap in good shape.

The wrap on it is white w/brown speck. I would like to keep it original.

Do any of you cue makers have old Irish Linen in White w/ Green speck ?

If nothing can be done with the current wrap, I would like maybe a
re-wrap.

Thanks, Tommyd1

Rough wrap

It's hard to say without seeing the cue. It could be that the wrap did get wet and the glue bond under the linen is letting go. I could also be that the threads are breaking down on a wrap that is that old. Re-pressing could help, but will probably only be temporary. After re-pressing, your guy could put a little sanding sealer on the wrap to keep the threads from raising. I'd just get it re-wrapped if it were me.

What did you mean by "old linen"

I was thinking Cortland, but if it is white w/brown speck it would be
one of the newer linens -

re-wrap from a good cueguy runs about $40
reworking could easily cost you half that much

this is only my opinion, Tad's wraps are the best and they older they getthe better, i'd do everything possible to save it or send it to Tad.
