Taiwanese Players

Hi

I may not be up with the qualifiers and other IPT news events that may answer this query.

But where is all the Taiwanese players in this event or has there not been any because of some restriction or ban or simply not qualified for this event?

Cheers

Kyo

Wu Chia Ching entered 2 qualifying tournaments but was eliminated. The rest didn't try for fear of the APBU's wrath. LOL The Taiwanese players should have been one with the Filipinos at not allowing an organization control their careers with politically motivated decisions. They need to show some intestinal fortitude when fighting for what's right and good for them. That kind of politics is counter-productive to this sport and the Taiwanese should probably hold a "People's Power" Filipino-style.;) :)

that explains it. I knew Wu was in a qualifer but that was about it.

Surprised that Taiwanese got put off so easily. The IPT been looking the venue/tour to be in.

As I understand it, the Taiwanese make an above average living in their country from tournament winnings and government subsidies so they had more to lose if they got banned for joining the IPT and then it folded.

I can't say I blame them for making the decision not to join. However, if the IPT looks like it is going to be around for a few years I would expect to see a Taiwanese invasion, so to speak, in this years qualification tournament or in 2007.

I don't think they would be banned. Reyes and company are also members but were never banned. Wu tried twice to qualify but failed, I bet he will try again. I hope more Taiwanese should go out more.

The APBU threatened to ban any player that played in the IPT. That is why the Taiwanese weren't going to risk being banned to play when they already make a good living.

You said "I don't think they would be banned". If you were risking your livelihood you would probably prefer to be able to say "I will not be banned".

Wu didn't play in a qualifier until after the Phillipinos joined the IPT and were not banned by the APBU.

How great misunderstandings:eek: ...... No Ban (not only the Filipinos & Wu, but also japanese Okumura and Takahashi are all from APBU) . No government subsidies (basically, taiwan government only subsidizes and cares for Asian Game, Asian Championships ,World Game, and WPC.

I think the reasons taiwanese players are absence from IPT include:

1. Most taiwanese players lack of enough money to travel USA to fight for IPT qualifiers. If IPT can move their one or two tour qualifiers to taiwan as they did in Japan and China, taiwanese will be more pleased to support IPT tours.

2. The Filipinos and american both speak English, but Taiwanese speak Chinese and taiwanese.

3. Taiwan has their own tournmentsand united organization, but the Filipinos don't, and it's why the Filipinos always show in Japan and USA .

4. Some top taiwanse players including Yang, Wu and Chang are striving for Asian Game qualifiers. (They can get not only the greateset fame but also much money from government by winning the title.) Chao is planning to run for Member of KAOHSIUNG City.

5. Because taiwan only have 9-ball tours, most taiwanse young players are still strange to 8-ball.

6. Most taiwanese players make a good living by running or working for the Pool halls. Only the top players can make an above average living in their country from tournament winnings

No ban? Then the APBU ate their word/ memorandum warning all member nation players that they willbe banned from WPC/APBU sanctioned tournaments. I remember that the contents of that document was even posted in one of the threads in this forum. And it was mainly about KTs(IPT) disagreement with WPC. They probably realized that they can't put a noose around the Filipinos neck.

So did the Filipinos but they found a way. What do you mean by "move one or two tour qualifiers to Taiwan"? You mean bend over backwards for you? A few qualifiers are/were held at Cosmo in Japan and one in China, why is it that the Filipinos found a way to go to those? You guys just broke into the pool scene and you want to be prima-donnas?

Quite surprising that Taiwan who plays a big role in World trade don't find ways to improve their citizenry's ability to converse in other languages. Basically the players there have no ambition or see no need to expand their horizon. Most of the world-class Filipino players never got their High School diplomas but they strove to learn how to speak and understand English. Most of them even speak in Japanese fluently.

So does the Philippines, isn't it a fact that the ONLY Regional 9-ball Tour in Asia is a product of the Philippines and sponsored by a Filipino corporation? If we don't have tournaments here then what were Yang, Chao, Chang, etc. doing here? What were Archer, Basavich, Strickland, Deuel, Souquet, Hohmann, Immonen, Chamat, Takahashi, Eberle, etc. doing here? Playing golf and ...What was the big deal there about Yang having a girlfriend here anyway?

Oh okey. So his heart is in politics and not pool then. So that really is the real reason, he wants to be a politician and not a professional poolplayer.

Also, the Philippne Government rewards Games medalists too up to US$20,000 plus the Mayor of the Gold medalists' hometown rewards them with a house & lot.

So, Wu fluked the World 8 and that too is a reason why he can't even win an IPT qualifier, he can't fluke a win. Is this what you really want to get across with your message?

You say that your players don't have the money? Your economy does a lot better than the Philippines yet the Filipinos found a way to fund their trips. Also, that "not having money" should be reason enough for your players to seek greener pastures. Pool is our universal language, talk to us in pool. That, we all understand.
