Taiwanese Pros and Predator?

This is why I suck at pool, I can't get reliable information on cues and shafts as every good player has their own preference.

If they all would/could agree that a certain cue/shaft combo is the best then I could get one and be a world class player! I am doomed to always chasing the right equipment.

I believe there will never be a shaft/cue combo that the pros will agree to be the best. The pros in the top 1% play with varying equipment and/or combo for varying reasons such as sponsorship or preference...

The right equipment is the one that you like; the one that makes you perform at the highest levels. And simply not what others think is/are the best.

Richard XBreaker

Reading the beginning of this thread, reminded me of Richard that owned X-Breaker. I recall he got very Ill? Is he still around? Sure was a great guy to talk to...

They would play world class with any decent cue, but certain styles of play are enhanced by cues that favor that style.

Some players like to play "loosey goosey" and want the shaft to be more flexible...other players play a more "rigid" style and want the shaft to be less flexible.

I prefer the more rigid and larger diameter shafts.

For example, I would literally bet anything that if one of the players you said preferred a rigid style, if he just so happened to grow up playing a loose cue then he'd like those instead. Certain qualities of a cue will be preferred by players, I agree with you there of course, but I think it has more to do with conditioned factors like what they started with, or the type of tables they play on. I just honestly don't think it matters at all what they prefer, to us or anybody for that matter. People like to think there's some secret to playing good is all I'm saying, so they get really into stuff like this, but the only secret to good pool is a good pool player. Cues aren't winning any titles or matches. Ever.

Can anyone explain why there seems to be few of the top Taiwanese players using Predator shafts? They seem to prefer using high end customs, Gina, Southwest and Taiwanese customs.

314 on Joss butt seems to be the standard break cue for Yang and Wu, but I have only seen Chang JL use 314 shaft?

Maybe its the impeccable playing conditions :)

Can some of our Taiwanese friends elaborate?

I think I read here that the Taiwanese coaches don't allow their students to use LD shafts.

Or that they at least ask them to go get a REAL shaft.

Real shaft for real men...lol

Did you ask about cue weight? I would imagine with extensions and everything players are using heavier cues? I have watched pro's and I am always amazed at some of the shots they make using inside English. Mika gets really nice inside english from angles I can't believe he still gets the action he gets. Follow through seems to be key to many shots.

look for the TAR video of johnny archer where he explains why he wants deflection. in that same video, johnny explains how bustamante uses deflection when shooting. there's just too many playing styles and preferences.
