Received a new Talisman tip for beta testing. It has not been named to date. The first thing that is noticeable is its color, White. This is a layered tip and I received a soft. Took some measurements of its diameter which is .557 and a length of .312. I don’t have a durometer so hardness is unknown at this time.
I have been using a Kamui soft on a Meucci pro shaft. Over the years have used many different tips, and prefer soft tips such as elk master or Ultra skin. Primarily play on 9 foot tables and play 3 to 6 hours a day , so my tips get a work out.
I took the tip and had it installed. Letting them know the brand, beta test and that they were probably one of the first to install this new tip. The installer said that this tip is soft and similar to a “Sniper” or “Elk Master” tip in his opinion from the way it machined. No other comments, other than the question of potential mushrooming.
I was able to get a few trial shots before I left, the first hit I could really feel the difference, kind of like I was feeling the ball with the end of my finger with a center ball hit. I tried a few draw shots and was impressed with the action on the draw, the cue ball seemed to take the draw and hold it. A few force follow shots also were worth noting, the action seem like the ball has some stored energy in it. Worked a few shots with spin and really saw a difference in the cue ball. It took the spin with a liter hit than normal, yet reacted as expected; I was very pleased with the first few shots with this new tip.
I was a bit concerned with the color, White, but after a few shots, I think that may a better color, it seems to blend with the ferrule, and not a distraction to me.
Having a chance to practice with this new tip I found it to be a better feeling hit and that the control over my shots with English seemed to take on more than with previous tips. The soft tip is soft and you can feel it. I set up a shot that I know that needs a stroke, ball at 1st diamond on the rail and move cue ball back the end rail with excellent results. It also held the chalk very well, I chalked with masters and hit 12 shots no mis-cue, and then re-chalked, not the most scientific but better than my last high priced tip.
Getting a few games in with this new tip, I found this tip to play very well, my English and position play was excellent. One point that I did notice a big improvement was with my draw shot, less stroke with longer draw, same was with force follow.
Over all in my evaluation of this tip I would rate it a 9 out of ten at this time, mainly because I’m not sure how well it holds its shape over time. I would buy another and recommend them to anyone that uses the higher priced tips out there.
