I used Talisman Soft Pro tips for a couple of years now, and I have them installed by the only tip installer in town (other than the people that do it for themselves).
He always installed the tip, then got it pretty close to a nickel size, but there was always a spot in the middle of the tip untouched. In that spot, you could see some gold color, which I never knew what this was. When I got it back, I always had to sand off the first two layers because they didn't seem to hold chalk that well and didn't play that well, but then it was ok usually.
Then I bought a couple tips online to have with me at tourny's because the guys at the tourneys don't carry Talisman Soft Pro. I was surprised to see no indication of gold on the tip, other than the letters on the glue side.
On the last tip I had done, you could actually see the shape of an S in the middle of the tip. Does this mean the guy has been putting them on backwards (glue side up)? I always thought the letters were on the glue side.
This guy does all of the cues that people turn in to the local poolhall for tip/shaft work, so I figured he knows what he is doing, but maybe I was wrong?
