Talk about bad luck!

i got about a 50% winning percentage at tourny's lately, down from about 80%, I can't figure out if I'm playing worse, on the opposite end of my opponents good luck, or maybe those other guys are gettin a little better. It seems every damn time i miss lately the 9 gets lucked in on the following shot. The most annoying thing is having someone luck in 2 9's in a race to 2 and then prance around the bar bragging about handing me a WHOOPIN'! I was out of a tourny recently with only 1 shot taken in 2 races to 2 against 2 c- players!!! First guy got 2 9's on the snap, and on the b-side i draw the worst girl in the bar that is lucky to sink a single ball, she miscues on the break skims the one, but moses put his Staff in the air, parted the rack and lined up a dead 9 ball frozen to the 5 which happens to be 3 inches from the 1. The 8 sank, and she decides to take a 75 degree cut on the 1, without even looking at the 9, misses completely comes back off the rail hits the 1 a second time around and slams the M F'n 9 in!! (looked similar to this.

a good shot but nowhere near what she was trying, i asked after the match to make sure, hehe.)Game 2, she breaks doesnt make anything leaves me hooked, i jump make the 1 and scratch. She goes for the 2-9 combo, misses the pocket by a mile but the 9 whizzed all over made a few caroms and POW right back where she called it. (its not call 9 btw) IM OUT OF THE TOURNY!! the rest of the night i had to listen to everyone Raz me about being sh**ty and i don't deserve to be sponsored by the bar. I was in a INSANELY mad and needed to leave, (i was literally sitting there tight lipped fighting the urge to drop the gloves and start hitting people) but i couldnt even do that I WAS RUNNING THE THING!! I obviously wasn't mad at the girl that beat me, just the guy that beat me and started talkin, and the rest of the people that supported him. The thing that pissed me off most was that they were not just razzing me, they actually were convinced that i sucked and they were all gonna beat me every week now. Once a table opened up i called out for everyone to play $5 a game against me, now all the sudden we got a full room of people that don't play pool for money.

(TO ALL YOU guys that are gonna chime in 'Try using paragraphs', or 'terrible spelling' or 'bad grammar' F U!! if my ideas are on the page i don't give a shiznatch what it looks like, if i wanted to waste an extra 30 mins proof reading id go back to college. i go as fast as i can with no care whatsoever if its 'PROPER')

Its just a phase. I got in the money in 43/47 bar tourneys prior to two weeks ago. The past two weeks I didn't get in the money in any 0/6. Everything seemed to contribute..poor endgame shotmaking, bad rolls, bad leaves, 8ball breaks against, slopped in 9's against, etc, etc. I was getting real frustrated. But I took the weekend off and came back with a more focused frame of mind and won the tourneys Mon, Tue, Wed. Just got to take it one shot at a time, one game of a set at a time. At least thats what I took from it. All a learning experience.

I never get mad or frustrated from losing, i just get mad or frustrated when people wanna try to make me look bad when it was obvious bad luck. Thanks for the encouragement.

So you get unlucky and lose. It's tough.
Here in the uk I play county (b-team) - a bit like playing for your state, though representing a smaller area.
Last month I lost 2 unlucky matches, and was 'substituted' half way.
The month before I'd been playing at a similar level, won 3 of 4 matches, and got man of the match.
It happens, all you can do is take it on the chin.

However, if you're playing well but got unlucky, and some inferior player is running his mouth, you have an opportunity on your hands.

Simply asking people to play for money didn't work.
But when he's bragging about beating you, speak up, say he fluked it and couldn't do it again.
He'll either reluctantly agree with you, and shut up, or he'll disagree and try to further rub your face in the loss.

The latter is ideal. Keep at him and he'll get into such a position that it's very hard for him to back down and admit that you're better.

So then you challenge him to a game after the tourney, for some money. Push it as far as you can / want.
Then take his money. You're a better player, you're playing well, you're going to beat him 9 times out of 10.
And inside he'll probably know he got lucky and start to feel afraid of going up against you for the money. Then your odds are even better.

You've not hustled him, you never pretended to be a worse player than you are, you just got unlucky before.
If he's too arrogant to admit that, it's his problem. He knows your real ability, or knows that you're an unknown quantity, and can decide whether to gamble on that information.
The only thing forcing him into the money match is himself and his own pride and arrogance.

Might as well make some money out of the night, eh?

You just don't know the ignorant attitude of alot of North Americans. People here will run there mouth off, turn down your challenge, run there mouth off some more, all while refusing to play even a friendly game. Most bar tournaments are just a room full of NITS. I tried from the moment i lost to get someone to agree to a game when a table became availiable. At about 11pm a table opens up, i go snag it, and guess what? With 20 'Pool players' in the room, they would rather sit on thier F*#$ing chairs than give me a chance to prove them wrong.

You are a loser who talks like a loser, cries like a loser and dies like a loser. There is no bad luck, all rolls even out eventually, all get the same percentage of good and bad rolls. Only losers cry over the bad rolls, winners never do. May I offer you a suggestion, sell your cue, take up bowling.

9 posts and already deciding to throw around insults? Unlike you i don't feel the need to respond with a childish barrage of insults starting a flame war. In my defense, i was not complaining about a bad roll, or losing in the fashion i did. What i WAS upset about was having a room full of people trying to tear down my game after months of solid performances, simply because i lost 2 unlucky matches. Also 20 people would rather sit in thier chairs than attempting to back up what they had to say on the pool table, money or no money. I realize that all the rolls equal out, and i have had my share of good ones. Maybe next time try reading an entire post before starting to throw out a bunch of childish insults. It never ceases to amaze me how tough and rude people can be when hiding behind a computer monitor and an anonymous handle. I SAY 'GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR'

Fxskater to be honest with you, don't play 9-ball race to 2. There is a big luck factor in the game. In a race to 2, Earl strickland can lose to a C player if the C player wins the toss, slops in the 9, and gets a lucky early 9 combination the next rack. It's too quick. Think about it, in 9-ball the first rack, you run an extremely tough rack down to the 9-ball, get sharked and miss, and leave your opponent straight in. He fires it in. The next rack, he breaks, sinks the 6 ball, and a 1-9 combo lines up right in front of the hole for him. NOTHING you can do about it. 9-ball should be played in long races, at least race to 7, to pretty much eliminate the luck factor IMO.

You should have signed it Ultimate Loser #1, that fits you better Driver.

You can lose on the coin flip

More than once I have been in those race to 2 crapshoots and never gotten out of my chair. Shit happens and the sooner you learn to shrug it off and learn that tomorrow is another day, the better off you'll be.

If you have a choice, change your playing environment to a place with real players who understand the game. Dump the race-to-2 tournaments and try to find a decent house tourney with race-to-5 or something like that.

One of the reasons I never ever go to bar tournaments except when they are played on 9-footers and at least race-to-4.

I have to say that sometimes there just is shit luck...it happens....while I agree races to 2 (or any short races) are not really a measure of skill in any way....it still hurts when something like what was told here happens.
I've played in a tournament here and we had a winners-side to 4 and losers side to three games there.....I had 3 consequtive 9-ball breaks against me in one game and 2 consequtive 9ball breaks in another match....and sure enough I was out like friggin' snowman... There was nothing wrong with the racks...I racked them myself and every single 9-ball went to different pocket usually after 1-2 caroms on the way...

So sometimes it just happens...nothing at all I can think of that could be done about it...

cheers,
Kimmo

fxskater,

You have just solidified my resolve not to play bar pool ever again! Some people just don't do well when they drink. Sometimes the ASS in them comes out stronger than ever! You'll be back to kickin' their butts soon!

Maybe, or maybe you could gode them into it better ?
A bit of an insult here and there, call them a coward (or more colourful language) for backing down, call them a talantless bum who can barely hold a cue, get them hot under the collar (will probably also make them play yet worse too), then challenge them to prove you wrong.

See Rocky 3 for Mr T's masterclass :D

Although, then again, I don't want to be responsible for getting you into a punch-up, so maybe that's not such a great idea... :p

If it is going to take you 30 minutes to proof read, then college is not where you belong, and one might question you ever attending in the first place. :) After saying all that, you are not anywhere near as bad as some.

Whatever, if you get the gist of it, i could care less how terrible it looks. Proofreading isn't worth 20 seconds of my time.

Skater...just keep hanging here. You couldn't possibly have a better training ground and greater practice than exposing yourself to all of the name calling, debasement, diminishing of your skills, education, accomplishments, status, wealth, etc. Success only comes when others think they've made you feel lower than whale shit, therefore what you experience in the pool room will only be like water running off of a duck's back. Eventually the antics run off your back here also, you just need more practice.
