Talk about close calls, never seen a rank be this close

I just noticed that I am "ONE" point away from the second place guy in my league ranking.

I have 1949 total points, second place is at 1948. I have 6 set wins in 8 weeks, he has 6 wins in 10 weeks.

That's only about 1/20th of a percentage point that separates us! I dare anyone to try to find a closer ranking.

2 Justin Veteran 100 1948 6 957 10

Join the APA and watch when your LO gives everyone bonus points for losing. That really gets everything screwy!

Oh, I was not saying anything about how I have a higher win % than him by a lot and only have 1/20th of a % between us. I was just checking to see if they added last Wed scores to the team rank (not yet hehe) and was looking over some stats.

The way they put the top shooter rank is not just based on your win/loos % or how good you are, it's also ranked on how often you play, how many misses you have total, how low you keep your opponents, etc... Which is why he only has a 60% win ratio and I have 75% yet we are that close. Because he played in 10 matches and I only 8, he gets some points for that.

What the hell are "bonus points for losing"? LOL You can just stick whatever points you want on a score sheet to "adjust" things in the APA?

The only thing I've seen done in the USAPL, at least in my area, is a manual adjustment for a known player to start higher than the default 50 rank for those new to the league. If you are a known B- you end up as a 60 even though the system has you as a 50. If you are a B or B+ you will probably start at 70 or 75.

Interesting. Very close indeed. I like that system better than the APA Top Gun ranking. Only goes by win %. However, you do need a minimum number of matches played. I am tied for first place with a SL5 right now at 80% in a very weak division. I played the guy I am tied with two weeks ago and beat him pretty badly.

In my summer league last year 3 points separated 1st and 4th place..

That's close, especially for a final ranking. Usually the top team overall ends up quite a bit ahead. When my team was 1st we were like 20% higher than the rest. We're in 4th place now, and there are only a few points between us and the teams around us.

We're less than .5% behind the 3rd place team. The second place team is pretty close to the rest, but the 1st place team is way ahead in average score. When my team was 1st 2 sessions ago we had a 268 average which was about 20 points over any other team in the league ever.

I'd actually rather have a straight % win for best player, maybe mixed in with some total quality points for having a break and run, or winning a game by shutout, or by less misses.

Giving points just because you played more weeks in no way shows how good of a player you are. It just shows that you never have to miss a week because one of your kids is sick or you have to work late, etc...

The APA League Operators can add bonus points each week. Last 8ball session there were teams getting bonus points for losing. This session I haven't seen it, but in 9-ball, we have been getting 10 bonus points per match for winning. We are ahead of the 2nd place team by a few points, but the difference between 2nd and 3rd is almost 150 points.

I've seen leagues where you'd get points for paying the league dues on time, if you're late you lose out on the points. Sounds like there should be some type of guideline for these "bonus points" at least. Maybe a "great match" bonus if you totally kill a team or a "nice comeback" bonus if you are down by a lot in a match and come back to win, "honorable" bonus for calling a foul on yourself or forgiving a mistake by another player, things like that.

That would be much better, but unfortunately I've come to the conclusion that not all LO's operate their divisions the same. Our LO can barely even get the silly patches out to players, let alone keep everything organized.

Really?! I've never seen that in our division. The only bonus point I'm aware of is the one point bonus for mailing the scoresheet in a timely fashion. Have seen penalty points deducted as well.
