Anybody play it. I have looked at some of the rule differences and seen the 25 rule. Certainly these things are geared for the better players. We have a strong APA league in our area. Just wondering if anyone really likes the TAP league after playing in it for some time. What has your experience been like?

I have been playing TAP since they started up in Atlanta. IMO they offer the best of what APA does, playing a race according to your handicaps, and combine it with BCA rules, except for the eight ball on the break or scratch when making the eight.

The 25 point rule makes a huge difference when trying to keep a team together. Typically your TAP players will be about one SL better than the comparable APA level, at least in my part of the country. Don't know about the rest of the world.

Sandbagging is a little more difficult because the score keeping is very detailed, and a pain in the rear. That's where the BCA has them all beat. Tough to socialize and drink while keeping score in TAP.

Nationals are held in different locations every year. Orlando last year Charleston, SC this year. We do play on Diamond smart tables.

All in all it still depends on your local league operator. Ours has done an outstanding job. If you like slop play in the Any Pocket Available league. If not TAP or BCA are good alternatives.

tap nationals

Yes they do. Our league operator sent two teams to Orlando last year all expenses paid. Probably varies by operator. Check out their web site at www.tapleague.com for more info on the organization.

I've played the last few years and enjoyed the format. Scorekeeping is a drag and in a lot of areas there is a lack of players. Overall I liked it.

Tap

I played in TAP one year back in 2004, I enjoyed it and had fun at the Nationals. That being said. Here is my problem with the natinal leadership. Our league operator for lack of a better word sucked he ended up owing money to the headquarters.(didn't find out about this until after the nationals) To play in the Nationals singles event you have to pay TAP directly back then it was $100.
Myself and 5 others payed to play in the singles. we finished in the top 32 teams. in the singles we all placed in some type of money. Well that was the year they did the vouchers nobody got paid cash they filled out a letter and were told a check would be mailed to them (didn't like it but hey they were good for it right.) Wrong and here comes the confusing part, and the part that still pisses me off to this day after earning our way into money in the singles and team events. only 2 individuals were paid for the singles event it took almost a Year and several threats of getting a lawyer and legal action to get what was owed to me.
I paid TAP directly not my operator. So he had nothing to do with me playing in singles. So why did they feel the need to not pay up.. In my opinion that is a piss poor way to do business period. Just my .02. To this day nobody has been paid for the team Event..

We have a tap league and like it, its definatly geared towards more skill, we do go to nationals, this year i believe in charleston, the league pays for the teams to go. we send 2 teams, its a blast, we have approx 25 teams, and soon to be many more I hope!! score keeping is the fardest part but iI do believe that this is what keeps the handicaps in check much better, and yes the skill levels do seem to be a bit stronger than the apa.
