I have used taps from different vendors and by far in my opinion the taps from Atlas are the best and tap the smoothest.
what is the difference in the special , and the HO special
From what I know is there are two types of taps you can use. H3 and H0 for the 3/8 10 or 3/8 11. The H0 taps have zero tolerance and makes it so the shaft screw onto the pin very tight. The H3 is the standard which has a slight amount of room between the threads, this has been used forever and works great. I found when using my Atlas 3/8 11 H0 tap I have to run the tap in a second time to get it so the shaft doesn't fit so tight but still snug with some resistance while turning the shaft onto the but.
