Can a pro taper be 'converted' to a straight conical taper?

Normally not, unless it is a large diameter tip pro taper and a very small tip diameter on the conincal taper. Check the joint diameter and desired tip diameter. Calculate the difference at the halfway point between the two and see if your current shaft is that large in the middle. That should let you know if it can be done.
