Here is a setup I put together using some extra things I had laying around. With the feed control and RPM control the shafts come out real smooth, very little sanding. It is a slow process only doing one at a time but I am very pleased with the end result. I spent two afternoons cutting the 2nd taper cut on 100 shafts and they turned out great. I show the spur driver in the pics but I do not use the spur on the driver when doing the cutting.

Very nice. I've been contemplating making a dedicated taper machine. It's nice to know that I can do it without breaking the bank.

I would guess I have around $700 in this project. I show the spur driver in the pics but I do not use the spur on the driver when doing the cutting.

That is a beautiful machine!!!!!!!! Great job!!!!!!!!!!

Taper Station

I was messing around and put a jewelers saw blade on my router and got a speed control for the router to slow it down some and took some small passes on a few reject shafts and the cut was very smooth, they looked like they were sanded and burnished. Below is a picture of the saw I used, this weekend I might get around to try a finer tooth blade and see what difference there is in the cut.
