Hi, hoping someone can help, i am getting my table put up next monday and have bought a tapping matt, i play on the euro tour and since they tap the tables i thought best to copy the conditions as closely as possible, they tap the table with the 9 on the spot, can anyone tell me how to measure it so as i get the matt in the exact position for me to do this myself?

Why tap the balls all your doing is creating a divot in the cloth and slate.. A good way to rack the same everytime is draw a straight line through the rack to the foot rail. when you rack and line up the balls you see the straight line through the balls before you remove the rack mark the rack with a felt pen or score the rack with sharp tool then check for burs polish it smooth. Another way is to trace the outline of the rack it looks tacky but works.

the euro tour play the 3point rule and tap the tables with the rack higher up. its not that i so much am wanting to do it its more that i want to practise on the conditions i am playing tournaments. over time wee dents appear on the cloth round about where the balls are racked and therefor it becomes increasingly difficult to get the "perfect" rack so if i tap them even very slightly the rack should stay tight for the duration of the cloth...hopefully.

Take my advise , Do not tapp your table I made the mistake of buy the Sardo Tight rack and after the use of it my table was tapped and I hated it , so thank god I got the timples out .

can you tell me why you hated it? does the sardo press the balls that hard into the cloth to basically tap the table?

Over time it does just slow roll the balls like your racking it will self rack for you.

Another probablem is the head ball lowers down into the cloth this will change your contact point. cue ball has a high center line and the head ball will have a lower center line from tapping balls. This will create a ramp and bye bye cue ball to the floor it will, unless you break softer in Cory Dual soft controled break.

So really tapping is a bandaid that dont work well.

ok i'll leave it for now and c how i get on without it, what about tightening a pocket? i bought pro thick shims for tightening them, would you recommend this or do you think this dulls down the reaction of the knuckles?

post a picture if you can of the shims never heard of those? You want neopreme rubber with a durometer reading around 60 comes in 1/8" 3/16" 1/4" what i try to keep in stock but you can get thicker. 3/16 or 1/4 is what you probably want and will play well and active not dead like hard rubber.

i am not sure how to post pics but they are on pro9.co.uk they are 5mm thick so between the 2 it'll take the pocketws down 1cm, they appear to be reasonably soft but i have not heard too much about them. i have bought them already but were reasonably cheap so if they are no good its not the end of the world, i'll just bin them lol

Distance between 1-ball & 9-ball is...

I measured this using my CAD program...

The distance between the centers of the 1-ball and the 9-ball is 3.8971" (inches). So if you offset your template up by approximately 3.9" (inches), you'll be good to go... 9-on-the-spot.

Or you could just buy my template. :D
