My question to everyone is this....I dont consider myself that great at pool...but are tavern/bar leagues good for my game??? I've played on and off for about 6-7 years and only this year have i really tried to play decent. This is the 2nd year i've been in our local bar league and i've gotten better at 8ball (last year i was 2nd last and now im in the middle of the rankings). I have fun and look forward to Wed. nights. I feel that playing people at my level and higher is a good start. Is it the league helping me get better or just maybe me not drinking as much?? haha.

Whatever floats your boat is right for you. If you're having fun then it can't be bad for your game. And the improvement in your ranking should be justification for still playing in leagues. Peace, John.

Good advice

The only thing I would add is to notice why you are winning or losing?
If you are winning but its due to your opponnet being bad or making bad mistakes then you should realize that you have to tighten up and know that against a better player you would have lost.
Play and have fun but keep in mind what level of players you are playing. If you are beating the worst soley due to their errors then figure out where
you made mistakes and fix those. If your beating the best then your doing okay but figure out why and what hey could ahve done to beat you. That will help you find your aspects to work on.
good luck and have fun

Tavern leagues are a good place to start. They're a lot like pot in that it's a gateway drug. I know a lot of people in my town that started out playing in the bar league. Then they took it up a notch to more competetive leagues at the pool halls. Then they started playing in tournaments.
