Team Captians.... Do you do ________

In my quest for being a more organized Team Captian this year I've started doing a number of things like keeping statistics for the people on the team.

How many of you:

  • Compile and hand out a phone list for your team
  • Compile player stats on a weekly basis
  • keep spare copies of the schedule on hand for the team
  • make educational materials available
  • provide rides to the match
  • anything else I've missed

I keep copies of each week's scoresheet in a binder. Then I forget to bring the binder nearly every week. ;)

We get our schedules all at the same time, but if someone loses theirs, one of the others always has an extra.

I do all the things you listed, except provide rides. It's just not practical for me.

I also have a shooting schedule for each player, so they don't have to show up every week. And, I call the players on the day of the match to confirm their participation.

I, too, keep a copy of each week's score sheet. I transfer statistics into Excel for longer term keeping.

I organize a weekly practice session for anyone who wants to participate (including other teams). Sometimes the turnout is good, others not so good. But since I was going to go out and play anyway, it works for me.

Have you considered springing for their weekly league fees when they're a little short.

...and they probably get thirsty while they play...

I will get them a copy of the schedule at the beginning. We also created a Myspace page to post schedules and other information, post pics etc.

I will text everyone and remind them of what location we are at that night.
There are some people that cant make it all the time but I dont make out
a playing schedule. I like to have people on the teams that want to me there and are supportive of the rest of the gang.
I will help them anytime they want it and probably sometimes when they
dont ;)
Many times I have met some players or a player out and went over a few things that they are having trouble with.
Drinks are usually bought for everyone by everyone throughout the season as long as the players have the dough. If not someone will cover a drink or 5. It usually all comes back around.
I dont keep detailed stats but have a friend that does and I think its very valuable material. Certain players seem to do better in certain situations and against certain SLs.

I just want players that want to learn, will not sandbag, try every time out, want to get better, willing to work at getting better, want to show up and finally want to play. Its surprising that with 8 people on a team sometimes theres a couple that dont want to go up when needed.

hey sgm, hows the new league you were thinking about starting?and are you going to vegas?
The new league is running quite well, we've doubled in size from last season. I didn't start it, but when I discovered what a good set up it was I jumped in with both feet to serve on the interm board of directors and do what ever it takes to help it succeed.

My Valley (Wal-Mac) team didn't win the trip this year :( oh well, we played well at the year end tournament and will be back at it in the fall. (with some personel changes)

I like your myspace idea.

Can I be on your team Mike ? It's only a 6 or 7 hour drive, well within reason for free beer
