I am looking for some advice on how we rotate out our players on my team in a handicap league. We play in a Tap league and currently have a six man roster with five playing each week. We had all agreed that which ever player that sits this week automatically plays next week and the player with the worst win % for the week would sit. The problem comes in the the handicaps as the lower ranked players only have to win two games so if they win one game they are at 50% when when of our big guns that has to win five games is at 40% with two wins. I am not trying to bash our lower ranked players just looking for some different ways that people handle who sits out each week.

Last session we made a schedule so that every one sat out once every six weeks but a couple people did not like that way either.

i'd say just do a rotating line up. Meaning, you have players 1-6. Well 6th man sits out the first week. And then plays the next and is the 1st man, the new 6th man is out for a week. Basically everyone plays 5 weeks and then sits one week.

Its even tougher when you have a 8man roster and are trying to get everyone equal playing time, while, also winning games and being in the chase for the playoffs too. Cuz I then found myself always wanting to play the best players.

But if you got 6 players just sit one out every 5 weeks.

Funny you mention this, as I had some problems last year! I had 10 people on the team and 9 people showed up expecting to play every week! I had an original 6 that I wanted to play every week, and the others were supposed to be subs! I didn't know what to do, but I had to basically tell the subs that I would call them when I needed them. Which was the original deal anyway!

Now you guys sound like you have made a deal, and now people are probably getting frustrated with you. The easiest way to solve it is rotate everyone out evenly. This means that you are playing no favorites. By rotating out the weaker players every week then you are keeping them from getting valuable practice time. This can only hurt you if you come down to a situation where you absolutely need them to play! I would rotate them all out equally until you reach the playoff. Also tell your weaker players that come playoffs you are playing the MVP's but that they should come watch and be there too! That way if one of your top dogs start choking you can have another person step in.

If they want to play badly enough they will respect your leadership, and they will do what you ask them to do!

IMO, this is the fairest way to run the schedule and is what I would do.

You can't please everyone all of the time, but it is at least the fairest. One person has to sit each week so everyone should have to sit the same amount.

However, this also assumes that this is a "fun" type of leage and not more of a "cutthroat, go for the money" league. If it is a "go for the money" league, just sit out your worst shooter each week or alternate your lower ranked players. In that type of league, the "big guns" should never sit out.

The low guy from the previous week sits out on my team. If you don't want to sit, play better.

The only exception I've made to this was to rotate a player in order for him to get the number of weeks he needed to play in a tournament.

Rotating

How does TAP score you're games, 10 points per game or 15 points per game? Just take the average points per game, and the one with the low average sits out the following week.

Player A = 10 4 10 6 = 30/4=7.5
Player B = 10 10 5 10 6 = 41/5=8.2

Player A sits the following week.

Or I would just play my best 5, and the other players, 2 usually for me,
were just 'subs' only used when someone else was gone.

In TAP you do not get points you race to a set number of games depending on your handicap. That is where we are having problems as each person has a different number of games that they must win.

I think I will change it back to a set schedule since we only have one player that sits out each week that is the easiest.

Thanks

I captain a Tap team as well. Sometimes picking who to play can be difficult. I try to base my roster based on the my best chances to win the night. Depending on the handicaps of the opposing team, your best team can vary. If I have a hard time choosing between two people to play I pick the one who has made the most effort out of league play to improve. If I'm not sure I make them flip for it. You can never make everyone happy but with only 6 players you should have little problems. I had 8 for a few years and sitting 3 each week was a bit more difficult.

Good luck!
