I have a home made rotary axis with 4 - 1 gear reduction on my machine. I am using g540 driver with 10 microsteps so math tells me that 200 steps x 10 microsteps x 4 reduction = 8000 steps per 360 degrees or 22.22222222222222 per degree. I see discrepancies in the DRO for the A axis in mach when I move to certian degree setting like A60 for example give me a DRO reading of 60.03. From what I have read I guess the explanation is that you cannot divide 60 evenly by 22.2222222222222 so mach positions it as closely as possible. Am I right in thinking this way? What do you guys do to accurately position something at a position not divisible? Do I need something a different gear reduction ? Should I even be concerned by this?

get a piece of round stock and using a small end mill....(.0315)... do 30 holes around and see if they are evenly spaced...... adjust your counts in mach3 until they are ............... if you want a G code to do it .......... PM me
