Technique for cloth stretching

I helped a friend out this past weekend reassemble a Olhausen Pro 8' table (it was originally posted as a 9'er which I was going to buy but didn't since I have a 8'er already). I've only assemble 3 tables in my lifetime (only 1 of which was 3 piece slate) and he insisted on reassembling it himself against my better judgement, but he did ask me to help and he was buying the brew so I did what I could to help. Right before I began the process of glueing the cloth down, I got an idea and decided to see if it would work. I went back home and picked up a 3' section of heavy wall pvc pipe and cut it about 8" long pieces. I then sprayed the bottm side of the cloth near the corner pockets and glued the two 8" peices of pvc pipe to the cloth at those two points. I couldn't believe how much easier it was to not just pull on it but to pull on it and stretch it more evenly. Anyone else tried this before? Bit of a finger saver too.

an Olhausen has backed slate, could have stapled the cloth. quicker and less mess

Actually, glueing it is quite a bit faster once you (at least for me) get used to it (not knocking your method now but I've stapled a few myself) and like I told him, he doesn't have to take the time to remove staples next time he wants to change his cloth. The worst thing he'll have to do is spray some ahiesive remover on the side edges of the slate where he put the glue on (3m 10). We still used staples on the pockets when we dressed them up though so he did have to use some staples. Still think he should have used a Pro to come in and install it for him. I even gave him the name of someone I met and contacted on here to do my table install when I get my 9'er. Not that it didn't come out looking nice but let's face it, neither he nor I do installs for a living and we don't know all the tips and tricks of the trade, but he was extremely excited about the finished result and I guess that's all that counts. I did tell him he couldn't buy enough beer for me to help him with it the next time though. Even he said he wouldn't do it again. So hopefully I won't have to wait too long to get mine.
