Hello All,
I'm wondering if you guys could give me some deatils about a Tim Scruggs cue I have. The cue was gifted to me about 10 or 11 years ago. My aunt bought it for me used. It's 57'' long and I would say it weighs about 20-21oz. It was given to me with only one shaft.
The condition is fair. It could use a refinishing job. The ferrule is ivory, not sure about the but cap. Theres a ding on the joint collar. The wrap is leather. I was told by one person that Tim Scruggs didnt use leather wraps but I was also told by Bob Frey that Timmy used plenty of leather wraps.
As you can see in the pics below, there is a small bump underneath the wrap. Everyone Ive asked thinks something got stuck underneath while it was being installed. If it wasnt for that little bump, the cue would roll dead straight. It still rolls very straight with the bump, though you can hear it when it rolls over it.
I talked to Bob Frey the other day and he said he could refinish and re-wrap it for $200. I think he said if I wanted another leather wrap it would be an additional $75. Pretty good price for a man of his caliber if you ask me. I did'nt ask about the ding in the collar.
I may be interested in selling it. It's my only playing cue and I really don't like taking it to bars and pool halls in fear of it being stolen. Plus, I could use the money. I have two friends that have played with it and asked me to sell it to them but I declined since I dont know what its worth.
So my main questions are: How old is it and what do you think it's worth?
Thanks,
Dan
