Race to 5. The score is 3-2
The player w/2 makes the 9 and scratches.
He then starts to gather the ball for another rack.
The player w/3 calls concession which would be an additional game and match.

What is the call?

4-2?.....or 5-2 match?

Stick8 has a good point. Texas-Express does not specify a concession rule. You would have to refer to the league/tournament rules on what the call would be. In some instances, you would be correct. A game would be rewarded to the winning player. However, there are some organizations that will allow concessions when a player scratches, leaving BIH on the 9-ball. Also, some organizations, instead of awarding one player, they deduct a game from the offender.

In all liklihood, if there is a concession rule, the set is over at 5-2 but no matter what everyone here says, it's your director who has final say.

The concession rule has to be specified clearly at the beginning of the tournament or else there is no concession rule. You can give them as many games as you want. Can be used as a shark tactic or to keep your opponent from getting warmed with easy shots.

I would say 4-2, he just gave you the nine without having to shoot it, giving you another win, not the entire match.

So your question is, assuming the tournament rule is that concession carries a one-game penalty, do the actions described constitute concession? Technically they do because by Texas Express rules the game's not over until the other player takes his ball-in-hand shot and sinks the 9. So this would cost him the match.

I agree, It is 4-2.

It's a gimmie, around here if you are gambling and you shoot in the next to last ball and get your shape on the 9 for an easy shot, it's over.

I don't like concessions, though. It's distracting. People get-up, sit-down, make moves toward the foot-rail... No, you put it in plain English: No concessions or else there's a penalty. That way, people stay in their seat until the game is over.

Also, there are some really gross concessions on the pro level. I mean, I've seen guys up 5-0, they break, leave an easy table and just rack the balls. That way, their opponent (who is now down 5-1) doesn't get to hit a few balls and possibly get his stroke back.
