Rarely do pool team sponsors get much credit for their contributions to the game. Many of my team sponsors furnished shirts, jackets, free tip replacement, financial assistance, etc. Among the best were Dick Skaff, Steve Schwert, Brian Harris, Grumpy Schultze and Jim Fox. "Foxie" owned the Red Sails Resort (Onalaska, WI) and sponsored scores of teams during the 1980s. Red Sails teams won over one hundred league and tournament titles, including one VNEA North American Championship and two Minnesota State Championships.
The team I shot with in 1986-87 was a monster crew: "Whitey" Lee, Billy Steele, Louie Lemke, Bob Schultz, Jay Gleason and myself. In 1992, my Breakers team out of Rockville, MD took third at the BCA Nationals and was sponsored the next season by Tim Scruggs. who was kind enough to loan me a new Scruggs cue when my stick was stolen. That team included Doug Sharp, Ed Kiess, Jimmy Scrima, Greg Pappas, Pat O'Neill, Bob Gawthrop and myself.
Other great players who helped me win titles over the years included: Dave Wolfe, Gene Bricker, Art Ekern, Len Jaszewski, Ruben Skundberg, George Zakem, Karl Lubke, Ron Guenther, Mike Haggerty and Tim Stellpflug. All these boys contributed to my game and carried me when need be, - I owe them and our sponsors a lot!
