That elusive feeling cue

all hits, and it resonates through the handle.

Hard to describe the sound, but is like you hear on TV at the pro events. But the feel is the sweetest part

Now that i listen mroe closly i ca hear it on my cue on any shot. Ive always just heard it more when i shot with a lot of draw since its louder than others. Of course maybe its not the correct sound to begin with. Perhaps we could get a method and have everyone record the sound of their cue and post them up.

Tink / Tunk

The cue has a sound that is different. Instead of the normal click that my others have this one has more of a Tink sound. It is the same sound that you hear when watching a televised pool event. It also gives a very nice resonance back through the handle, signifying a nice hit.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal for all Frey's and/or Scruggs??? Or is this just one of those that just happened to have what I concider the perfect hit>>>>>>

Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe / Stan -- What ferrule/tip are you guys using that makes the tink?

My bacote TS un-Sneaky has a Talisman Med w/melamine ferrule and sounds more like a heavier "tunk" than the TV "tink". It plays rock solid and firm with great feedback. Prefer my own tunk sound really! :D

I think a lighter grip with an off center ball hit helps create that distinctive sound.

Bingo. Why? It's simple. What you are hearing on televison is a seriously "compressed" signal.
Ever notice on television that on a break, the cue contacting the cue ball is just as loud as the cueball hitting the rack? Sounds like he really pounded it right? Well anyone who's been in a pool hall knows that not the case in real life. The cue ball hitting the rack is always much much louder. The same thing happens on a smaller timescale, within milliseconds, to the signal of the sound of the cue hitting the cue ball. It exaggerates the initial contact to cue ball sound and then even further exaggerates the ring of the stick, no matter how softly the ball is hit. This is exactly what you are doing when you hit it off center (softer contact) and light grip (more stick resonance)

Any sound engineers want to chime in no problem :D
