So just spitballing here, I see all the negative comments coming across this forum regarding the Mosconi Cup. So here you go.

Let's keep the players in there element, by starting a Strickland cup the players don't have to dress up, can bark all they want, shark when ever they choose and talk incensently during the match.

Forget about all the high class rules to try to make the image of pool look cleaner.

During the Strickland Cup, players can just be who they are, you want to Bark.....well go ahead, ruff, ruff. You want to raise the bet, then go for it. Put two people in the room and let them go at it.

Let's keep it real. It is really hard to put a polish on pool as a whole. So why not let it be what it is. This underside of pool is what keeps it interesting anyway.

So here is one of the first things that should be allowed.

Let's see where this goes.

I think your video AD works and sells really well...

I will not watch that crap. Ever.
Then it's just like WWF - artifically fabricated crap and "scripted reality" with not even 5gr of reality in it.

Want that just go in some seedy crappy pool club somewhere.

If you're wondering how pool continues to maintain its low class image, it's from contributors like yourself that purposely magnify the negative. You're disgraceful to include Earl Strickland, a man who has won the US Open 5 times. "Bark and shark?" Where I play, that will get you ejected out the back door much quicker than the way you walked in.

AWESOME, we need more people like yourself sticking up for the great
game of POOL.

I agree, act like a fool at the Pool Hall and you get kicked out the back door real fast.

I've commented many times that I'd like to see matches where the pros played without the "quiet" rules. Have some FUN! Bark at your opponent, kid him when he misses a shot, celebrate when you make a tough shot....like normal people. (No talking once your opponent is down on his shot - because that would escalate and get out of hand - but allowed at all other times).

Mic up the players and let them be. "My Grandma couldn't miss that shot and she's been dead for 30 years!"

I saw a video of Alex Pagulyan doing just that and it was great.

Sorry to appeal to you sensitive side, maybe you would be more comfortable if we were to call it the Boyes Cup then, he seems to shark more and likes to show his titties off, would that be more appealing to you? We can even hold it " Where you Play". It seems like a great place to catch the seedy side of pool on camera. We might even catch a bar brawl and not just the random broken cue in anger.

Or better yet if it were in a strip club.....oh the possibilities....much better then Karl's might I add.

Most games became a sport after it appealed to a large fan base, fans in the stands is more money to spread around.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really condoning unsportsmanlike conduct, but it is a reality of the game we play, and on occasion it does come up. Why not make it a show. I just thought Strickland because of the incessant babbling and not being afraid to show people how he truly is. But choose which ever character you like and ask yourself if it would sell.

I wonder who would be the Macho Man Randy Savage of the pool world? Andre the Giant? Why was McEnroe so famous, maybe it was his character, break a few rackets, ***** at a few umpires. Is this not the same type of character aspects we see in Earl and the old Ronnie O? Is this not some of what has made them famous? The fan needs to see a train wreck once in a while to keep them entertained. Add to that the added pressure of watching the match like in the last Mosconi Cup and you got something a larger majority of fans will enjoy.

Just food for thought,

Aloha

I'm amazed Matchroom couldn't manage to sell the MC the U.S. further than ESPN3 (glorified streaming)...I was talking about this very thing last night while I was getting my table installed...the loud, raucous, drunken fans, walk-on models escorting the players out and pressure of the MC should be compelling, sellable viewing. Matchroom was able to sell darts in the U.S. with the same model...

I'd call it the Bucktooth Cup... you are required to woof at least once every inning or
forfeit. Let's see... Earl, Keith... who am I leaving out? I'd pay to see THAT...
