The APA can kiss my.......

Thats funnny you asked that....

Fifteen Pages of Posts about the APA, and has any APA Official Responded?

I was thinking about starting a thread on this very topic..."Where is the APA..." The funnier part is it only took 2 postfor somone to make my biggest point. Mark steps up and tries to answer any ? about leagues, regardless if its his dog in the fight or not...I think that says alot about the guy. Yea one might think that with all the APA bashing that goes on, it scares them away, I think thats a load myself, in a forum this size there is plenty of room for their 2 cents, and a innocent man jumps at the chance to defend his honor...

FYI ask Mark if he has any interest or affiliation Diamond Tables. Lets see what his answer is! Could it be he is hoping to draw palyer from the APA to his BCAPL?

Mark does not hide his affiliation with Diamond tables. And naturally his involvement with Diamond and BCAPL is to make a living, isnt that what we are all trying to do?

But if you think he only does it for the money, and only answers questions here to get players into his league, you have your head stuck in the sand.

If more people with influence in pool were like Mark, the game would be MUCH better off.

Please explain to all the other posters here what Mark Griffin's connection to Diamond Billiard Products has to do with drawing players from APA to BCAPL. The BCAPL is simply the best format for an intermediate to advanced pool player. What brand of tables they play on makes no difference to them. My guess is less than 20% of all the BCAPL players play each week on Diamonds in their home league. No one is going to switch affiliations just to play on Diamond Tables once a year in Las Vegas. It's the weekly thing that counts.

Where it does make a difference is at Nationals. Most players pay their own way to Vegas to compete. I want the best tables possible to enhance my chances to come home with some cheeeeze. Wouldn't you? We are blessed with Mark's affiliation with Diamond. I remember the BCA days of loose cue ball weights, out of round cue balls, dirty cheap object balls, filthy tables, poor lighting, etc. I look forward to playing the BCAPL Nationals to play on those Diamond tables Mark indirectly provides. I feel for those poor players stuck on the Valleys at APA, Valley and ACS Nationals. Bet they appreciate Mark Griffin more than you!

Show me a player who believes a Valley or Dynamo direct from the factory will outplay a small Diamond Smart Table or Pro/Am also direct from the factory and I'll show you a ball banger, not a player.

Given the amount of APA bashing that I see on just about every thread that even mentions the APA, if I were with the APA, I doubt if I would be interested in joining the group. Maybe the read it, but I can understand not getting involved.

Right ?

Actually, I was thinking about the number of pros and high level pool personalities who have stopped posting here because of the abuse from a few posters on the board. For some reason, there are some people who believe that they can get on the internet and hurl personal insults all they want. These same people would probably be far more respectful in person than they are when hiding behind the anonymous screen name used here.

Most everyone on here seem to be great people, but a few who just want to be jerks can cause some people to just avoid it entirely.

It seems in many cases that respect has become a trait that some people have either lost, or never learned in the first place.

I think the title of this thread is a good example.

Dog The APA?

Geez Guys,

I have been there seven out of the last ten years and considering the size of that event I think they pull it off pretty decent.

Consider they have well over 200 tables there. While it might be nice to have the best mechanics in the world come and set them all up with new cloth rails and leveling at whatever time that takes times 200 plus would that be a reality if you had to run this tournament? They do have several table mechanics there on call if there is an issue and they have usually been there in minutes if a table needs leveling or what not.

If you didn't like those tables don't play Valley and a couple of other leagues because I belive they are the same tables and company installing them. Frankly, I find those tables quite easy to play on. I mean a seven foot table with slow cloth??? Crank up the cue ball speed and you are going to play like a god if you can play at all.

I was there in like 2001 when they had the diamonds and I thought that wasn't fair because they played different than what I was used to. They are certainly nice tables but play different.

I have asked why they use 7 foot Valley bar boxes and the answer I got was that it was the most common table league players play on. Through asking around this seems correct. I talked to players that don't even have 9 or 8 footers in their league area. Up here in Maine I usually play on 9 footers and can't even find a seven foot table in my area.

IMO the APA is a healthy growing league that brings new pool players into the sport of pool which benefits everyone.

Yes, I sit there and watch sub par pool every week. Call it my contribution to the pool world!

My guess is the event itself went off like clockwork. I haven't read a single post complaining about that!

High Plains Productions does a great job of maintaining the tables during the event. It's the pre-event setup that leaves something to be desired according to some players who posted on this thread.

Pocket speed yeah. Trash cue balls boo. Slow cloth makes the off center, off weight, oversize cue balls play even worse! Too much nap.

For that one purpose alone, the APA has a pretty much guaranteed future in the "pool league" business. If it weren't true, TAP and now the USAPL would not exist.

Wow

WAAH!!!!WAAAAHHH!!!!WWWAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

How much did you pay for your plane ticket and your hotel stay? Ummm..... Let me guess..... Absolutely nothing! Am i right?
Basically your team won a trip to spend a week in Las Vegas with your friends. What's wrong with that?
Everything else should be icing on the cake.
So what the tables weren't top notch? Just like other people pointed out, your opponents are playing on the same tables you are.
I'm guessing that you played bad and were the reason you're team faired so poorly. I'm sure if you played great this thread would have been titled "i love the APA".

Last year I was fortunate enough to experience the APA Nationals & I had a blast. My teammates and myself had no expectations. Just went to have fun.
When I wasn't playing pool, I was in the poker room, or mingling with some very attractive young ladies. I went to Vegas with $400 in my pocket and when I stepped on the plane back to Florida, I had about $500 and a slew full of stories to tell my buddies. (he, he)

I get tired of hearing people bash the APA. It's not perfect. It has it's flaws, but surely you must have some fun playing or else you wouldn't show up every week with your weekly dues in hand ready to play. My advice to you would be to quit playing APA, and start your own league. I understand your just voicing your opinion; but then again opinions are like azzholes, everybodys got one.

WOW, I recieved $430 for my trip to Vegas. I live in Kentucky so if you can get a plane ticket and a hotel for that please give me your connections because I payed around $700 for mine. Just to let you know I went 4-1 in my matches so I played fairly well. I never blamed anyone for our loses i just stated that the conditions were horrible and I was very disappointed. I never knew this thread would take off like this but I guess I struck a nerve.

I have joined a cash league and I'm happily out of the APA. In my opinion it will never change because too many people want to tell their friends they made it to Vegas, to me thats not the hardest thing to do. I have had several other opportunities to go by winning other APA events and have declined. I just feel if you make it to a national event you should feel like you earned something. I know its not the same thing but if you get into the main event at the World Series of Poker, I'm pretty sure you dont play it on kitchen tables with a used deck of cards.

Excellent post! To be honest, if the BCAPL suddenly changed to Valley tables, I'd still be there playing. The conditions are important to me but not the only thing. Used to go to win. Had very little fun and lots of agony. Now I go to have fun and low and behold, I'm both playing better and making money. On both the Diamonds and the Valleys.

The National events are a vacation for most players. If they moved the Nationals to Wichita, Kansas, entries would drop like a stone. The sanctioning bodies know this. The hotels in Vegas know this. Minimum service for maximum profit.

I had around $200 left after paying for hotel and airfare. My league operator set up my flight and rooms and it cost a little more than $400. I went 2-5 in my matches;I played horribly. I agree that the playing conditions were subpar but those who basically won the trip for free really have no reason to complain. If I had to pay my own way and pay to play, yeah I would be raising hell.
I wish there was a cash league in my area. I'm growing very discontent with some of the things going on the league, particularly the "politics" involved, such as skill levels and sandbagging. I was just kicked off my 8 ball team for fear of moving up to a skill level 6 and that wouldn't be good with 2 other SL6s on the team.

I was thinking of joining the APA, but i keep hearing bad things about it... Is there any leagues or clubs that is worth joining that wont break your bank?

and sorry to hear you got hosed like that in the tournament

don't know if its been said yet but TAP is a decent leauge
