What a bunch of BULLS**T!!!
Tournament Director lied to all Actual "B" players and let all the A players play. Unfair to all the "B" players who are actually true "B" players who forked out 45.00 for this tournament. This is an ongoing problem with the all the tournaments at City Lights. You advertise one thing and do something different the day of the tournament.
Really sad you have to lie to players to get players to play!!!!
So much for honesty, integrity, and credibilty!!!!!!

So which 'A' players are you referring to?

It is sad that players won't show up unless you lie to them. Part of the problem with pool tourneys IMO.

I was there, paid the $45, I also agree to many A players let in, you can't fill a B tournament with players if they keep hearing about all the A players let in, 38 people in the field, about 7 "A" players, so much for the B players getting much money back, I will stick to the open weekly tournaments there, atleast you know what you are in for. I also heard other "B" players complaining about the "A" players that were let in, as well as some players withdrawing there entry. I wish someone would run a true "B" and below tournament.

Tournament Director let "A" players in

1. Valentino Alvarado is NOT an "A" player, unless he can consistently run racks. Junior Sardoncillo lost to a "B" player 7-1, tell me why he has proven he is "A" worthy, on a sidenote Valentino also lost big to a so-called "b" player.

2. 9-Foot Tables change a game with a a big difference, control and speed.

3. The Best of the B's II was a strong fielded High "B" player field, 1 low "A" player(maybe)

4. What is your definition of an "A" player, mine is one who can consistently run racks, knows when to play safe and often plays for side action, someone who can RUN with Atwell, Zimmerman, Carrido, Louie, Zack, J.D and others...

I guess you meant no pro's, remember, I have seen the list of A players you listed, I have not seen them consistently run racks, they play great compared to most but honestly if they did everything you are talking about they would be pro's, atwell and a younger louie being the exception, I don't think you know how the B players feel, you should ask them, unless you don't care, then oh well, you just won't ever get a full field. I honestly am probably a C player at best right now but really, John Pluncket(bca grand master), Val(cover of billiard paper saying val earns A), JR, Nelson, Pat Vice, Eddy M., and others I am forgetting, all Masters, I know the field would have been tuff without them, but really you should have wanted the true B player names in the Money so next time you could fill the tournament with people who saw the results and thought, "I could win that tournament", instead, they will hear about the A players and see the names, (granted some didn't do so hot but everyone has a bad day or game), and this will kill the possibility of getting a full B tournament, and next time other A players will use the excuse that so and so played in your last B tournament so why can't I??, Just seems to me that you could have done something for the future tournaments that would have been positive, not so sure now, my guess, like me, many won't be back for "B" tournament. I am just making a suggestion here, I know it is hard when you have to make the call on the entries, but I know for a fact(so do you) that I am not the only one who felt this way, I didn't say a word about it at the tournament but I did hear a group of 3-4 talking about it on Sat. after my first match., see ya Wed. Steve

I guess I will throw my .02 in. I was surprised that they let in Eddie Mataya (did he win?), Val, Jr., Pat Vise, etc. again. My criteria would not be can they run racks, but can they beat the top players in a race to 7 on a big table and in my estimation, all the above players could (and have). They aren't the favorites in the match, but they have the skills to make it only a slightly favored proposition for the A players.

I know that there have even been complaints about even me entering other B tournaments (I didn't play in this one), although I am a solid B and can (not often) perform at an A level about as often as I perform at a C level. :o For a woman, I am ranked as an A player (Master BCA and APA 7, and have won several regional tour stops on 3 different tours), but as an open player, I am still only a B.

I know the other women who might enter the B tournaments are intimidated by all our good Filipino and Mexican players. ;)

If they need to boost entries, why not have a handicapped tournament where the A players give weight and this other top tier give up just a little less weight? Just wondering if something else could be implemented.

Cadillac Island has a good $ amount for highest B player out of the money, so it depends on the draw and creates a mini-tournament inside the main tournament (kind of like High Woman) and may net more entries. It's working well for them. Or maybe Stephen could talk to Mike Jensen for his rating system, since he just had a B tournament as well.

Since there seems to be some confusion. I was not complaining about the tournament, I was commenting on the choice of words by shootemstr8. I think players that only show up because they think they'll have the nuts are a problem in the sport.

Not saying that's what happened, but I thought he had an interesting choice of words that I wanted to point out. Basically that TDs have to lie to players for them to show up. In other words, a well-run, fair tournament isn't enough, but there has to be added incentive.

Cheers,
RC
