the better side of pool players

all too often i see people post on here about their negative experiences with pool players in general and league players in particular. too many posts complaining about rules, ball bangers, nits, drunks and just plain assholes. more than once i have posted in those threads that i do not see that type of behavior in my pool leagues. well let me rephrase that, i have encountered 2 drunks in 3 years of league play.

i would like to share the better side of pool players with you.

i attended a benefit tournament yesterday for a fellow pool player who was injured in an accident. it was organized by the owner of high pockets, the apa lo, and the napa lo. they had a blind draw scotch doubles tournament, raffled 3 cues donated by high pockets, and accepted outright donations.

i want to give kudos to the napa lo 8 year old son who stopped by and donated 40.00 and bought 40.00 worth of raffle tickets. he could not stay because it is an over 21 establishment. he used his christmas money he had been saving and won a cue . good deeds do go rewarded.

the tournament was billed a blind draw ,unhandicapped race to 2 double elimination. well after a little consideration the organizers decided to do away with the blind draw format and just match partners as evenly as possible. they did not want to see 2 3s match up against 2 7s lol, after all it was a benefit with the pot split between the players and the benefactor.

not one person complained about changing the format a half hour before the tournament. i must say they did a very good job of matching partners, every team was competitive and by the way the time out rule was basically thrown out to with a lot of coaching going on during shots lol.

just wished i had bought me and my partner in the calcutta, i did not think we would get far and i missed out making a few dollars.

all in all it was about having fun shooting pool and helping out a fellow pool player.

Thumbs Up

That is great what your League & players have done to help out follow players. My League also have put up some benefit tournaments/donations for a few players who were dealing with cancer. The players from the Dallas area all the way up to Sherman, TX. are "stand up people" and have always come out to help.
I agree, it is good to read positive stories.
Thanks for posting.
