thanks, now I see the difference. If the package weighs more than 20 lbs. one has to use PMI, otherwise it is better to use PMI Flat Rate. Since Billiard Encyclopedia fits the limit, that's my option then :)

billiardshot, do I understand correct that Flat Rate is the same regardless of the weight? So, for instance, PMI could cost less in case of minor weight and close distance?

Vahmurka
You would use PMI with less weight and up to 6 lbs [Less cost.]

You would use PMI Flat Rate with weight of 6 lbs 1oz up to 20lbs [cheaper cost]

At 20 lbs 1oz to 70lbs back to PMI calculation

PMI Flat Rate is the same regardless of the weight [max. 20 lbs]

For USPS International Mailing Russia is Group 4

Now that all books have been shipped that were preordered I will try and get rates for overseas delivery. It's not that easy. If you have friends that have the answers to rates overseas and can ship the books, that might be the best way to get the book quickly. I myself can't carry the books to the post office or spend an hour standing in line. The best rates I've gotton are sending books by M-Bags but there are restrictions here as well. The book is just to heavy and expensive that's why I'm trying to get as many overseas distributors as possible. I will lower the number of books a distributor must by to 24 as then I can send them cheaper by M-Bags. In the next few days I will try and get USP rates to various countries and then I can quote prices overseas.
Trying my best,
Professor Cue

sounds like an employee swiped a pre release.. or got a set he didn't want early... probably because he made the thing.. ....

are we talking about 1000 copies.. or 1 copy... if you are desperate enough to be the first .. then bid all of your inheritance... but

more realisticly you will get an incorrect proof version... something is wrong so they didn't ship it... who knows..

I wouldn't sweat it..

Looking forward to price quotes for oversea.
im located in belgium, any idea on where the closest oversea distributor will be?

My g/f is offering it for my xmas present. In her words: "You have been talking about this stupid book for almost a year. If i buy it for you will you please shut up?"

Got to love her

We are putting the overseas rates together at the moment and it appears a single book depending on where it is shipped would cost between $50.00 and $60.00 dollars. A case of books would be between $175.00 and $200.00. We are also in the process of getting our credit card account set up so that we will be able to accept credit card payments. Overseas orders please email exact address and we will get back to you with a price.

Thanks,

vs@billiardencyclopedia.com

I assume it depends on the edition, either collectors or not. If it is an ordinary one, $180? Add $5 for a brand-new condition :)

The Billiard Encyclopedia

Greetings once again,

Now that we have caught up with packing books, we are ready to take orders once again. We've had an awful time getting our web-site http://www.billiardencyclopedia.com going. It should be working once again. It is the only place where one can get an autographed copy. Also, we are taking orders at Blatt Billiards 1-800-252-8855 where we can process credit cards. Occationally I will list a copy on eBay where you can pay with PayPal or credit cards. As for overseas orders the best thing is to call me direct at the above number or email me at vs@billiardencyclopedia.com and I will give you shipping costs. At the moment we have distributors in Japan and Germany and will be adding a few more from time to time.
Thanks again to all that emailed and have written in with your kind words.
Best Regards to all,
Vic Stein

thanks Markus and Vic for making the book

600 pages, this will make this the biggest book i've ever read. :D
nobody will believe me if i'll tell them.

regards,

solly who HATES reading books , but will love every second of this one.

first of all:

Markus the book arived perfectly well yesterday. Well packed, very fast shipping, all perfect. thanks

Vic: If i ever said anything negative i apolagise. This is the first of the 3 editions that i own, and i got overwelmed when i saw the book. I even did a happy happy joy joy dance for 5 minuts. It is amazing.

the only - thing, is that it is SO big and SO heavy i can't just take it anywhere to read it comfortably, but i magine that making it smaller in size, will transform it in 3 volumes at least. It is FILLED with knowledge and information, and if this is 1/3th of the things you know, then you just made it on the top of my lists of persons i'd like to meet one day.

I'm also happy you took your time to travel to europe and talk with some very knowledgable people like Guy huybrechts, etc. European collections are often underevaluated. We might have less collectors in europe but thos who do collect have HUGE collections with masive knowledge.

I started reading it yesterday before going to bed at around 10pm, and wanted to go to sleep at 11pm, well i was late at work today because i have been reading ALL night. I just couldnt stop reading. I wish i would have met you earlyer to point you in some directions of people you might not know yet and that could make the descission on what doesnt make the book even more difficult. I hope we meet one day and you have earned my highest respect.

with xmas etc coming up, I don't think you can go wrong by offering this book to anyone who loves the game, and I hope many will.

con's:
- heavy and big wich makes it hard to handle and take with you.

pro's:
- Very nice pictures (some are so nice, like the centerfolded pages, that i wish i had the courage to cut them out and frame them and put them in my room... might buy a second one just for that. )
- Very easy to read
- this is not only Vic his knowledge, its filled with knowledge of everything and everyone who means something to the sport
- Price is CHEAP for what you get

i do miss sometimes info on prices like in stelinga's book, but your book is not a priceguide, its information about everything you ever might want to know. Not every subject is gone into the debt i sometimes wish for personal information, but its IMPOSSIBLE to write everything about every chapter without this book having over 10.000 pages.

I LOVE IT, and its the best gift (my wife got it for me) i EVER got.
thanks alot, respect, and contact me if you are going to make a 4th edition.

Solly, thanks for sharing your impressions. Reading all night over is smth I'm already scared about :D cause I know I won't be able to stop either.
I in turn contacted Victor when he was making last preparations for sending the book to print to inform him that Russian billiards history is vast and at the same time almost completely missing. Unique cues and tables being a little part of it. Unfortunately Vic didn't get my mail in time as we were ready to provide some photos just for this edition to be included. Well, now he's got enough time to get prepared for 4th edition, so he will have to travel to Europe again, meeting you and then visiting us :)
