The Billiards Games Library

Fellow cue sport enthusiasts!

Over the last couple of years, I collected a big amount of rules for various billiards related games. First I started to print them in pages, but as they grew more and more, this was getting way too much to sort and manage properly. So I started to make a digital collection of the rules I found. Over time, the idea grew on me, to share my gathered knowledge with the community which started my interest in these games. So I started to make a website…

This week my library went online, and I may proudly present it here!

The Billiard Games Library

First things first: this website was only developed on and for desktop computers so far. As this is the only source I could test it without going online. And as I may have some knowledge in web development, but barely any mobile web development, like touch device support, styling for different screen sizes, … I intent to make it better over time though. And if anybody is willing to help, I would be more then glad, because my knowledge of CSS is a bit small to be honest 😄

Secondly, as this subforum is intended for the 300 ways book, I want to thank the author of it. I started collecting rules before I knew the book existed, but when I found references to it online, it sparked a huge drive in me and my collecting grew way more serious. Even though I do not have a copy myself, as they are quite hard to find in Europe, I still got a lot of names for games which helped me a lot in finding new sources!

Thanks for your time, critique, suggestions, and I am looking forward to any further discussion about my research project!

Thank you for your time in creating this website. I'm looking forward to new games and the opportunity learning ways to use some of the specialized ball sets that I have.

Thanks! I hope I can teach myself mobile web design fast enough, to give all my visitors a pleasant experience. So far iPads seem to be not that good with displaying it well. Especially the menu keeping focus and staying open is very annoying, and I try to fix it next week 🙃

I wish you a lot of fun with the games I found 😃

If moderators want to move it, I am fine because I have no clue where this might fit best 😊

I just hope that I get more replies, as they are quite scarce after the first week. Maybe when people read my rules more carefully or played with some of them. I thought maybe I get more rules in here as well, or people might correct me on some mistakes which I may have made on the existing ones so far. I proof read it like 3x already, but I have over 700 rules there, and English is not my mother tongue as well, so I assume I must still have missed a few of those. I also struggled with understanding a few of the old rules before 1900, because of the older English and the used letters in the books. So I will happily take any criticism and help in getting errors out as well!

So far I did not think about an App. I am a Desktop Web App developer for work. That‘s my usual environment. I struggled a lot already with getting good mobile support into it as well. Still have to improve the website and learn new stuff to make it better. I never made any Apps, and as this is a different kind of technology, I am not sure what the workload would be to make one as well. My website is designed in a way though, to have something like game datasheets, which then get interpreted and displayed. So I would only need an App frontend for it, however hard this might be. And I have no clue about any invovled things like App security, device compatibility ,…
