The Break

similar to previous post. What should be focused on when about to contact cueball when breaking? Look at the cueball? look at the headball? look past headball into rack? look at back rail? look at a spot a foot or so past cueball? Again, one will work good for awhile, then another.........

pool is a complex game.....

on my final break stroke I am focused 100% on the spot where the head ball touches the table..

hope that helps:thumbup:

Actually this prompts a question about breaking. I have been working on my 9 ball bar box break. I am trying to come up with something that is fairly consistent on making a ball and controlling the cue to reasonable position area. I have based my attempts on watching Kenny Brisbon break at the APA national singles this year and trying to copy his technique. (Nice win this year Kenny).

Anyway, my specific target point is what seems to be giving me problems, seems like I can pick a point and aim for it and get good results for a while then I go totally dry on the break for a while. (Note: I am practicing at home with the very best rack I can give myself everytime so I honestly don't believe its rack variation.)

I am basically playing from the far left side of the table with draw, trying to hit the one ball full and attempting to make a wing ball. However, it seems as I attempt to break with more force, my spot I am aiming for has to change, is this correct or am I just less accurate when I break with more force? Note I am not talking about a large change, but if I break with more force and aim for the exact same location on the one, all the sudden the wing ball will start hitting high on the rail instead of pocketing.

So my question is do you adjust your aim point on the one as you increase the force of the break, or do you try to aim for the same point always and try just control your speed or is there something else I am missing all together?

I often see the respone of move around and find a live spot, but that seems like I am leaving things to luck instead of having a method I can depend on during a match. Again I am not concerned with ball gaps, etc at this point, as I understand that changes everything, since I am racking with enough patience to know that isn't an issue.

Also as a reference point, what point on the foot rail would you say you are specifically aiming to if you extrapolate the full hit line? Assuming again that you are breaking from the far left side of the table.

Thanks

CueTable Help

I guess when I was asking about the end rail, I don't aim for that either, but I was trying to get a better understanding the term full. Not being sarcastic, but the example above is about what I see full to be, however, I could see someone else seeing it as to the right or left of that point.

Thanks
