Of course the movie is about hustling and winning money, but the color of money is: Green. Fast Eddie is imeadiately jealous (green with envy) of Vincent at hearing his first "sledghammer" break. The green envy continues and Felson uses it to come out of hiding and try to become great again.

Also, Felson uses Vincent's insane JEALOUSY of his girlfriend to good measure also. In fact, John Turturro as Julian, is very jealous of Vincent's talents, and the fact that Felson is stake horsing him.

Ahhhhhh haaaaaaaaa!:D

Imagine how much more perplexing it was for Canadians or other countries that have all different colors of paper money.
Yeah, I've been watching it on and off for 22 years, and never got the connection till now.

Worst pool movie ever

Tom Cruise ruins every picture he's in. Any dude who came into my poohall and twirled his stick like a baton would be sent out the door on his knees.

The guy is a joke and a fraud. Sorry to see Paul Newman stoop to appearing with him.

You know, I'll be one of the first ones on the "I hate Tom Cruise" wagon, but, even as silly as he was in that movie with the twirling the cue and the obvious just learned bridge........he was the reason for a huge pool boom that got our sport some recognition back in the mid 80's. I gotta at least give the movie credit for that and the average Joe probably wouldn't have watched it without Cruise being in it.

Cruise is just an actor, every thing, every move he did was because the director told him. So you should blame Martin Scorsese....

But wait what does Martin Scorsese knows about pool? or pool hall ethics maybe you should blame the "professional adviser" to the movie, Mr. Mike Sigel.

Cruise played the role of a cocky young player and if you didn't like him then it means that he did a good job in playing is role....

Now don't forget that after all it's only a fiction movie and its main purpose is to entertain the crowd.

And as posted here before, this movie is fully responsible for bringing pool back to life in America!

That would probably be a good way to trap you in a hustle sice it annoys you so much? What pool hall to you own / play in?

Are you really flexible, because that is a real long stretch.

Anybody else see Shaun Wilkie do this in VF at the Super Billiards Expo a couple months back? I did -- as he was moving about the table, he did the quick baton twirl (perhaps one and a half loops? it was dramatic) and positioned himself for a behind-the-back shot (which he made). He was shooting so well I didn't mind in the least (he beat SVB on the winner's side).

Put down the joint my friend.

Enjoyed the green theory. One small hitch: the movie title is taken from the Walter Tevis novel, which unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective) had nothing to do with a character named Vincent or hustling or pretty much anything that appeared in the movie. Kind of like the Bourne movies vs the Ludlum novels.
