Alain "the dancing bear" Martel, the french Canadian from Quebec, will play in the WPC this year and is in Group 14. Alain's best remembered from his third place finsih in the WPC in Cardiff in 2001, when he gave Mika all he could handle in the semifinal before going down. He was a real crowd favorite that year, in part because he was one of few breaking hard in the later rounds of that event.

Since his semi-final appearance in 2001 Alain hasn't competed much outside Quebec, he was in a pretty bad slump for about a year but seems to have returned to his old form since winning the national championship a year ago. If he has his break going for him he could be a player to look out for in Taiwan.

I did see him in a Joss tour event in 2003. I think he took 2nd.

Not sure which year it was but he competed in the Joss event at Renaissance in Quincy. Ended up beating Ginky 2 straight in the finals. Really a great performance.

Alain is doing better. He will be at the WPC. It's been a while since he has participated in an international event, but he has been winning quite a lot this year. Him and Danny Hewitt shared the first and 2nd position for nearly all the tournaments on the Pechauer tour. I would not say Alain is at his best but still he's a very dangerous player when his break gets going.
