The DIAMOND SYSTEM You Must Know … And How to Make it Better

FYI, I just posted a new video that presents the through-diamond, rolling-ball 2-to-1 kicking system. I demonstrate the system and show how to make aiming corrections to deal with errors at larger angles or on tables that might not bank true. I also demonstrates a wide range of game-situation examples showing the usefulness of the improved system. Check it out:

As always, I look forward to your feedback, comments, questions, complaints, and requests.

Enjoy!

Good info. Ckearly explained.
I just feel when you try give all steps you make it sound too complivated. Even i feel there is too much.. even i am very knowledgeable around learning systems i feel little confused when i watch all steps.

The graphics and visuals are huge improvements in the presentation for the diamond system.

The video would be more comprehensive if you asked questions at the end to let student's test their understanding of applying the concepts to interesting situations.

If you did diamond system with spin or English then it would have been more complete.

Good info. Clearly explained.

Thanks.

I have a problem when even you don't follow the steps.

I should have included a diagram showing how the tip-shift pivot and 2-to-1 shift back to the CB work. I will when I write the system up for Billiards Digest in a few months. A diagram would make it much clearer. Sometimes it is difficult to see some of this stuff clearly in video.

That's a good idea, but the video was probably too long already (for most people).

I wanted this video to deal exclusively with the standard rolling-CB system (with no sidespin). Many 2-rail and 3-rail systems use sidespin, but it is not recommended for 1-rail kicks.

another great one dr dave
your mirror system pot method going from the cue ball to the line of diamonds instead of the rail nose eliminated an extra step i need doing it from the rail nose

With all 2-to-1 system versions (classic 2-to-1, mirror, equal distance), I vary where I measure based on shot speed (and the distance the OB is from the kicking rail). I cover the speed part in the speed adjustments section of the video. For slow kicks with the OB far enough from the kicking cushion, the diamond lines work great.

Thanks.

Don't be too hard for yourself. You already make best videos but i try give feedback so you can improve future videos. I think diagrams are good idea. You can also remind that viewers can pause video to see diagrams. So you don't need to show it more than maybe 5 secs..

Agreed. Next time I try to demonstrate something this complex, there will be a diagram (unless I forget, in which case you can remind me again). :geek:

Dave,

My 8-foot Olhausen with 760 Simonis plays the section labeled "Benchmark System" without compensation. Corner to side diamond to corner. {Clean Duramith balls}

Do you think this is the cloth ? or has something to do with the way I roll CB ?? or some other effect.

Does your table play short on the other lines like 4-to-2?

Aiming that close to the side, it is possible the pocket facing is influencing the 8-to-4 kick, sending the CB shorter.

Is it also possible you are putting unintentional a sidespin on the CB?

It plays just a bit long as illustrated below, from basically every point of banking.

I can move it back 1 inch and get the same effect.
Is it also possible you are putting unintentional a sidespin on the CB?
The CB is reaching the rail with natural forward roll and without sidespin

I happened to stumble on this video last night and watched it. At first I could follow along....but as it kept going, I got lost. I'll watch it a few more times to let it sink in. But thanks for posting!

I know some of the "aim adjustment" and "2-to-1 shift" stuff is a little complicated; but if you want to be accurate at larger angles and for and CB positions, it is required.

Like anything, it gets easier with practice. Ideally, a viewer would try each thing in the video one thing at a time, and practice each thing until it makes sense, watching the pertinent section of the video as many times as necessary to understand what is being presented, but I know that is asking a lot. :geek:

Guess I gotta try the 8-4 shot even though 4 is IMO past the tit.

Basic teaching in 3C says without getting into too much, if you're laying somewhat closer to 90degrees to the rail, like on 2, you aim opposite the diamond. If much greater angle, like 8-4 or maybe even 5- 2-1/2 you aim at the diamond. I gotta pull that hand written chart.

Wish this vid was recorded above the table. To me it looked like most of the shots the CB hit to the diamond, not opposite.

That's how it looks.
Just saying

Pretty sure the teaching is sound.

On most tables, you need to aim above 4 from 8 to get the right line to the corner.

All the shots in this video were aimed "through the diamonds." This is a "through-diamond" system (although corrections are required, especially on some tables).

Nice shot breaking up the 1 & 5 and getting safe behind the 8 ball at the same time!!! I hope I never have to play you, there are no safes.

Thanks. Obviously, it is not easy to do this every time (unless you are Efren), but the system does help a lot (for those who aren't Efren).
