Yesterday I noticed technique I was unfamiliar with on the putting green. Similar to my Crane technique to find my center for planting tri- pod stance. Foundation.
Shit! The pool gods are messing with me now. Make the bank and go 4 rails and slow roll up to 1/16"" but no kiss for the point. Damn just 1 damn point for such a good effort..it ain't fair. Shut up and shoot.
10 hour day, too sleepy to make a coherent thought. It's 11:03PM and I gotta get up at 5AM for that 10 hour day tomorrow. Good practice session tonight, 5 and a half hours, enough to keep the stroke there.
The Sumo wrestler is my thought of the foundation. My morning stretch dance around the table including the leg raises to foot plant. A strong foundation.
Table tennis and baseball training. The need to bring complete focus to a moving target. Shoot that cue ball is just sitting there. Marty Reisman could play table tennis with the knife edge of the paddle. Hit the edge of table or top of net on demand. Knocking standing cigarettes off of table was simple. I can bet his eyes were on the cue ball when he struck it.
The daily maintenance. About an hour in the AM. Provide inspection of mechanical aspect along with mental. Some days it just flows other times... there are uh disconnected missed shot. Oh good! A chance to trouble shoot and repair. My favorite task. Well sometimes
Gotta love it when I find that one little tweek and it just works. The balls just magically go where intended.....then come back the next morning and ....oh man I should have left a trail of bread crumbs.
Ah the check list. Pilot check points/list are critical. Can't bring a clipboard to the table so, I just hope I have enough RAM.
Enjoy watching Ronnie in the championship. Very precise in adherence to routine. Still water runs deep.
Survey lance must be engaged full time. What if while in the chair, I indulge in self mizeration...and the stealth waitress swoops and snag the beer bottle with the last savor able swallow? Oh Hell No!
From survey lance to survey upon rising from chair. Submit for analysis. Ronnie seemed to be submitting in duplicate. Didn't see the numbers but suspect average shot time is uh well more deliberate. 75% of top speed to exceed is in danger of simple mistake. For me.
Chasing the Tail , I prefer over dog wag tail.
Cole lined up over the 3/4 table straight. 9. Look up deeply into the eyes of the waitress (target) knocked the back off the pocket and smiled. Game On..
The billiards aspect is the fun part.
Willie Hoppe taught cue ball last. Harold Worst studied under.
Once I am sure of a stable shoot platform I can adjust the aiming. To work on aiming before established basics is well chasing you Tail.
I relate the aiming of the cue to rifle. Right down to the ring finger pulled trigger.
Gauging the instrument leads to interesting results. When I get down (in practice) and the computer says it ain't on..... rather than drag the tired Old Fart back up to start over... I just look closely at what I think it will do and just hit it as the intended shot. Makes for a fine tuning of instrument.
Graduation from Falcon to Bald Eagle. Ta Da.
Chase Tail came as a modification of Colin's shot making drill that I got from Dr Dave's archives.
My opening shot is 1 of 17. Cue ball head spot 1 ball foot spot. Straight double kiss. Hit perfect would send cue ball back to Head rail and rebound for another kiss. 3 or maybe 4 in history.
Shoot till miss then change hands. No Chalk!
If I remember right C J pronounced 10 in or was it 9 in a row impossible?
Do it for an hour a day for a week. Video your mechanics and compare to Ronnie or any favorite. Probably the young Asian players will display the most optimal mechanics.
Return to the double kiss as prescribed, (well not a hour but) I have found just a slight closure of the stance. Was getting a consistent miss to one side. In my case just opened the stance 1-2 inch and walla. High run of 5 for the session.
One ball practice was promoted by the coin op bar table. Figured if one month of one ball was required of the Australian billiards champion, that has a regulation table of marble as his burial marker.
Willie Hoppe's Billiards as it should be played, helped me enjoy one ball practice.
Graduation to three balls after a month. Three ball is my favorite practice
My propensity for thrift lead to 3 ball break then kick them in. Most were recycling by a timely catch. Well 15 balls for a quarter could provide a practice session. Kicks Like a Mule became my ring game name.
