The gender debate in pool

The controversy in sports over gender specific participation is happening again.

Is it fair to say in pool no gender is supreme in most cases? In pool a strong female player is an economic indicator of an area having strong female leaders and strong female development programs. New York City is superior in the development of strong female billiard talent. Why haven't other cities been producing as many females? The main factors I focus on are the existing pool infrastructure might have groomed boys better as noted by SVB and his rise to hall of fame status.

While the women in billiards have a less public development program. The need for funding and sponsorship at a higher level for WPBA is needed. If the WPA or Heyball and MR can resolve their differences, WPBA can come out the winner.

Billiards is one of the sports where extreme physical dominance plays a minimal role in 9 ball played on fast cloth. It might be worth considering making the balls lighter to take any muscular advantage men perceive to have. As for the anecdotal evidence, most average men can barely recognize what is on the table when compared to a trained shooter.

Can the billiard industry support WPBA pros moving forward? MR is making big splashes and it feels like the dust is hitting WPBA. The worst case scenario is top WPBA pros decide its not worth it because of finances, which has been happening and will continue. Some pros are better at running rooms others are better at staying on tour. WPBA is a tour focused organization.

As a population study I hope the women attract investment specific to the needs of female players globally. Females have more restrictions globally and that is not a pool discussion. A billiards program can easily be made into a program not for women. That is a concern for humanity, not pool related. It impacts the size of the potential pool community.

Everyone should know what its like to make the nineball on a tough leave.
