My friend and I were supposed to get a lesson from him in New Orleans. He passed before we could get that lesson. For some reason I thought he passed when he was in New Orleans.

Pool is the only sport where a heroin addict is glorified and a tournament is named after them.
apparently you don't watch much sports. nfl/nba both are rife with abuser/druggies/wifebeaters and they get praised/cheered all the time. yes, louie had issues but he wouldn't hurt a fly and was a great player. nice to be perfect. better sell your cues if you feel that way. hate to have a full fledged hypocrite lurking around.

Very successful athletes and gamers are as prone to life’s vices as as anyone else and usually much more exposed to those vices for many reasons - so better to just focus on their sports achievements - we are not judge and jury.
And pool, especially in his day, did not pay much so the pressures to compete/win were huge without a big upside. Louie was all-right in my book.

Anyone with video of him playing, would love to see it added here. (I know, I could search YouTube…) He was some kinda player.

BTW, that lead-in song is the Eagle's classic 'Outlaw Man' from around '73. One of their few hits they didn't write. Written by a NYC folk/blues guy named David Blue.

Didn't know him well. He stayed in my back room for a week once. I played him in a Grady tournament when he was not at his best. I asked Grady if we should play later and he said it won't be any better. Sadly I beat him easily. I have seen him when he was at his best though and few played better. He was hard to not like, at leat in my experience.
