Hey everyone...Everyone post their stories of the greatest game of pool they every played.....whether it was against someone really good, or just a practice game, whats your best accomplishment in pool?

Everytime I step up to the table it's going to be the greatest game I ever played. Sometimes it actually is. Truthfully now that I can run a table from the break on a semi regular basis I can't remember anyone particular game that was a stellar performance.

Best game

i ran an 8 pack on a bar table one time... (in a money game) and ive run several 2 and 3 packs... and once i ran a 6 pack in a tournament (race to 7 my opponent had me 6-0, i won the game and ran out the set from there). but thats about it... those were when i was in DEAD STROKE and thats something i cant seem to find these days...

also... when i first started playing pool i was in the APA and had been playing for about 2 years.. i was a 6 skill level and my team was down 2-1 in the finals match to see who went to vegas... the opposing team throws up there strongest player (a 7 skill level) and the coach put me on him... well he won the coin toss and broke and ran the first 2 games on me (playing 8 ball on a 8' table) and then he broke and didnt make a ball) well i ran a couple balls and hooked myself 2 balls before the 8 ball... i didnt win that game either... so he's up 3-0 in a 4-3 race or a 5-4 race... i cant remember exactly... he broke and didnt make a ball and i ran out that game and ended up winning the 2-3 games i needed for the win in a row to keep my team in the match... (which we ended up loosing anyway..)

I don't recall a greatest game, however, I do recall a great night of pool.

I was in an eight ball league VNEA and our team had folded. Another(good) team had one of their players quit and they were talking of folding.I told them that I could join their team and they agreed.

Anyways we were about to play the top team in the league (a double header)which consisted of two A+ players and three A level players.Everyone on my team was A level or higher and I was the lowest ranked at B+.

I was cringing with nervousness at the prospect of meeting the top team and the fear of letting my teamates down. After all I was the player with the lowest ranking and this was a re-sheduled double header to add to the intensity.

To make a long story short, I went into deadstroke(and with some added luck) I ran out 3 or 4 tables and won 9 out of ten matches. It was definitly one of my greatest feelings from a night of pool.It earned me instant acceptance and confidence with my team mates.Later on that year we went on to win the league championship, the trophy and the prize money.

my greatest game was one time i had insomina and ended up not going to sleep at all, went into the pool room that night, i was feeling it, felt fuzzy like id been drinking. Got into a 3 man 9ball ring game and break and ran 5 racks in a row. Every roll went my way, it was so effortless i was actually laughing half the time from the lack of sleep. I kind of woke up after the 5th rack and realised what i was doing and pfffffft, end or run lol

Greatest Game Ever Played

I'm a 5, playing a 7 in 8-ball match, and we're hill-hill. He leaves the 8 locked in one foot corner pocket and the cue ball in the other foot corner. I have 4 balls - one about 8" from the blocked corner pocket, the other 3 all downtable. No ducks. Ran 'em. Excellent rush.:D

Finals of a small bar tournament. I was hooked, had to jump to try to hit the ball. Just when I get down to shoot, 2 guys come in the front door with guns to rob the place. "Everybody down on the floor and close your eyes" they yell. After getting a few cues and wallets and cash from the bartender, they leave. I get up, jump the ball and make it, and run out for the win.:D LOL, the bartender then told me that the thieves took the prize money too! I got paid a few days later though. Maybe not my best game ever, but definitely the scariest/funniest moment I ever had during a game of pool. Peace, John.

One Time In Detroit...........

I was playing a fellow named Napo who owned the poolroom on W. Varner. The front table was a very tight Stepleton. I ran 9 pure racks of 9-ball and I think it was the best I have ever played. Two days later, both Cornbread & Cole Dixon refused my offer to play 9-ball on that table.
Two funny things happened while I was running those racks. Terry H. & Whitey Ellis (from St. Louis) came in and saw it. I had no idea that they were even in Detroit. Also, the fellow I was with (Gordon) said after the run - "You should slow down, You’re shooting too fast"!
Now he hadn't made a score in over a month and never came close to running 9 racks - but he was criticizing my playing. When he finally did play - he went empty to Calhoon.

I'll never forget it because I haven't shot like I did that day since.
Vegas 1999, National 9-Ball for the APA.

I hadn't lost a match and was moved up in handicap.
My next match was against a 7, I was a 6.
I won the lag and ran 3 racks in a row, 4th rack I played one safe and then ran that rack out. Wound up winning with 46-2 score in what seemed like about 3 minutes.

My buddy Matt, who is going to Valley Forge with me was filming matches and they didn't get mine
Oh well, one fleeting glimpse of near perfection and then back to grinding out wins against 4's :D

Good Feeling

I was playing 1 pocket against a strong player. I broke , made one on the break and ran out. One other time, I ran 75 balls in a straight pool tournament 35 years ago.:D
Purdman:eek:

Stories ...

Best National - placing 9th in VNEA International Championships in 8 ball
singles with over 1,000 entries. Team placed 32nd.

Best Regional short streak - not quite 3 years ago
Winning a tough 32 man tournament in 8 ball after losing my 2nd match.
Week later - Won Kansas State BCA Championship in singles, and my
team won the team championship.
2 months later - Won the Seniors Championship in Oklahoma City.

Best Local - Hadn't played in 6 months, going through divorce, got into a
3 man ring game for $50 am man per game. Shot 31 hours total. Down
$1,500, and ran 11 racks in row (7 runs, 4 breaks). Ended up even, which
felt like winning at the time.

Best League match - BCA - Playing 2 time National Champion, Terry Young.
He broke and ran racks 1 and 3. I broke and ran racks 2 and 4. He broke
and ran to the 8 on rack 5, was hooked, kicked and missed barely. I ran out, and won the match 38-37.
Quite a few times gambling, and comebacks ...

Easy - I ran a rack against Karen Corr at a WPBA charity event a few years ago and remember it very well. I made a ball on the break and parked the cue ball pretty good, but had a weird setup with the 1 and the 8 by the side pocket. The 8 blocked the 1 from going in but was not far enough over for me to combo it with the one.

Something like this:

CueTable Help

What I TRIED to do was thin the 1 and carom in the 8. What I actually managed to do was make the 1 up in the corner and just bumped the 8 across the face of the pocket. I don't know who was more surprised when the 1 dropped, me or Ms. Corr. I then ran the rack from there, making it 1-1 in that session.

Unfortunately for me I tried my luck again the next year, hoping to conclusively pull ahead and went down 2-0. (With grinning Jennifer Barretta looking on to further deepen my shame.) So now I stand at 1-3 against her and have to win both games this year just to pull even.

I guess the best for me that I've played in a long time was when I lost the finals of the winner's bracket, and then lost the finals to the same guy at this year's NH State Amateur 8-ball Championship.

I mean, it was great pool. I shot as good as I ever have, and he dug deep to shoot better. Neither of us made crazy mistakes. And there was an actual spectating crowd. It was a great feeling.

I've shot better matches (B&R the set), but these were the sets that really made me feel good about being a poolplayer, win or lose.

There are 3 matches in my life that come to mind, now bear in mind I'm only a B player at best but when I'm in stroke I'm capable of shooting way over my head.

#1 I was playing a well-known NYC Open level player straight pool going to 100 points, I ran back to back runs of 42 and 43 and went out the next inning. I won 100-22 and only missed once in the game. He had the last laugh though...he ran 101 the next game.

#2 I was gambling and was way behind when I ran 79 balls to take the lead and eventually won it.

#3 Playing in a local 8-ball tournament (races to 4)
My opponent won the flip and scratched on the break, I took ball in hand and ran out the set! 4 racks. No one believes me when I tell that story but I swear it happened.

M best game is probably 9-ball but sadly I have no great stories in that game.

Best that week

Won 15th Air Force Straight Pool Championship single elimination format. Came close to losing the first game , after that no one even got close too me. 1964 was the year. Not all bases were there but most of them were.---Smitty

Im a D/C player but one night i was just on fire and i beat this A player maybe 6 games in a row. I broke for the 7th game and the out was impossible. There were 2 clusters and no likely way to break them up and this guy said to me- If you get out again here, I'm paying your way to enter the World Championship qualifiers. Well somehow i broke up the clusters with 2 crazy shots with perfect speed to get on the next ball and ran the table.

He was going to pay my way too but i just couldnt see wasting anyone's money like that. It was a fun night and i have had only 3 nites where i played like that. I guess that is what keeps me coming back.

Bar game recently...

Since I haven't played tournaments for a long time...my best recent game was playing in a bar. I was beating everyone in the bar...and a good player comes in. The others that I was playing (that weren't great players or anything) were warning the guy about me.

The guy racks and I break and get a totally un-runnable rack--everything was all jammed up. Well I let loose and just attempted a runout anyway. It was an unbelievable rack that I ran. I don't think that I had more than 1 or 2 balls that I could make cleanly without banking, combo'ing, or carom'ing them in.

I made at least one carom, a couple combos (that weren't easy I might add), I banked the cue off a long rail to knock my ball in cross-corner, at least one regular bank, and I ended the game by calling the eight off his five-ball to then bank it from one (long) end of the table to the other for the win.

The guy I was playing was just stunned, because I shot so fast and fluid and made 7 great shots in a row (if I may toot my own horn). When I stuck my hand out to shake his hand...it took him a few seconds before he even realized that I was offering to shake his hand. Boy that was sweet.

The first time I beat my mentor Andy Toth! We played $20 races to 7 in 9ball. They were really instructional sessions, because He did'nt want money for lessons, and I would'nt take weight. It was 3 to 3, and I ran the set out. From that moment on I was a Much better player. Andy was by far the best player in our area, and I always remembered that set when I really needed to give myself a boost. The next week He said, 9balls over, now you learn straight pool!:)
