Experience @ Lassiters
I was working for a contractor building an addition to Elizabeth City College around 1983-4?
We would head to what was still called Lassiters (b4 the name change?) after work. One evening, a vaguely familiar young man (I was only 23 myself) came in and challenged the table.. I happened to be winning at the time.. so he got to play me first. I didn't recognize who he was, but the rest of the guys sure did... (I was a recent transplant to the Carolinas from Pa).
I got the break, made one and a few more. Left myself bad and played an offense/defense bank. I got lucky and left him a kick... which he hit, but didn't pocket. I ran the rest for the win...
The other guys I was playing with- "quit"- and allowed the guy to shoot me again- as he had only gotten one (poor) look at the table.
I broke and came up dry... The guy proceeded to run the rack in VERY short order. My friends were cheering for the guy... which I thought kinda strange??
He broke rack 3- and had a fairly tough layout- He played superbly- and made a great breakout of the 6-ball, leaving himself a cross-side bank. I guess he was feeling a bit cocky- and firmed the bank too much making it come up short and hit the tittie. He left me a long back-bank... which I made, and ran the next 3 to win again.
He said he was on his way "home" (I think he was living in Myrtle-beach at the time) and just stopped in to see what was going on... He introduced himself as Earl... (BIG LIGHT-BULB CAME ON IN MY HEAD)... He was coming back from a Tourney in Atlantic City (he won). He treated me great, complimented my game.. and even bought me a beer.
I've seen Earl on many occassions since then, and he is a great guy in person.
