the irony of TH's win

it has not gone unoticed by me that earl the pearl is left on the outside looking in while all this money is coming in.

i can only smile....he cried last year when he got beat(was it twice?) by women. is he crying this year about how too easy 8ball is?,,,,like 9ball wasn't any harder, earl.''that's why he favors offense 14.1...,.he doesn't want to think too much.

My Opinion

is that Earl is living in the past, and on his past record. He knows he has the talent to get there, but he simply is not going 'all the way' anymore, and falling short in tournaments where he thinks he should have done better.

This mindset, when it sets in, creates a deep down desperate feeling, which has resulted in him desperately hunting elsewhere for the 'reason' why he can not win anymore. Hence, the gloves, blaming the railbiirds or opponents, or whatever other excuse at the time is handy.

It is sort of like the mid 50's man who has a younger dynamite looking wife that he enjoys being with so much, but in the bedroom he can't keep it up .... and the desperate feeling sets in.

TH vs ES

Yeah, and when Hohlmann beat him, he was in the hallway whining about the breaks Holhmann got. Things like, evey time TH broke....a ball would just barely trickle in... And then when TH broke and didn't make a ball, Earl would be left with like three clusters.

I guess I have mixed feelings about all of the excuses for losing and the whining from many of the players... Because on the one hand, many of the players are good enough, so that if they got some breaks where they made balls on the break and/or their opponent didn't...they would probably runout and could likely win the match.

For the top 10-20 players, given a few good rolls more than their opponents could potentially turn the matches the other way... But on the other hand, the excuses and whining does get a bit tiring...especially if you are their to hear it...

The IPT tournament format all but eliminates luck as a deciding factor in the grand scheme.

Sure, you could advance to the second round on luck or beat one opponent luckily, but there's no way you could advance through 6 groups of the best players in the world by luck.

Strickland doesn't have a leg to stand on in that argument. He proved that he's better than many players in that tournament, but falls short of the top-caliber pros of today.

Yeah, I agree with you. I was just talking about one specific match...because Earl was specifically talking about his match with TH. A couple lucky rolls would never help someone win the whole tournament.
