The KNOCK FROM MARS!

M Lalum,

You know, I'm starting to develop a profile on you and it's not looking pretty.

You make some nasty insinuations about some of our fine forum members by calling them hustlers and wannabee hustlers simply because many have responded that I should tell the interloper he was wrong for interrupting our game and knowingly or unknowingly knocking my action.

You apparently look down your nose on people who like action and I think it is hipocritical of you to have that perspective and still admit that you gamble at pool.

Furthermore, you misquote me and put your own spin on what I said and while I can take criticism with the best of them, your spinning things isn't appreciated. I said, " I would rather win or lose $100 than to win or lose $40 after playing for two hours or so.", NOT that I would rather lose $200 than win $40 in a cheap long game.

And as far as you not wanting to play strangers because it is a "foolhardy endeavor", it just goes to show you furthermore as a hipocrite. You admit that you bet on pool on occasion, yet you are scared to play a stranger because it is a "foolhardy endeavor". (More looking down your nose at others who appreciate the risk and fun of gambling.)
I guess you prefer to measure your marks carefully before taking them down.

Anyway, I normally don't waste this much time addressing someone's post but you seem to be painting the forum members who posted in this thread with a wide unruly brush.

I won't have time to play word games with you so don't expect me to invest time in future response posts with you but I wanted to let you know how I view your posts.

Yeah I get that alot.

A stranger comes into the pool room and asks a couple of guys to play $10 one pocket and no one wants to play him. So one of my pals tells me that the guy is looking for some cheap one pocket and I tell my pal that I really don't want to play anyone for $10 a game. I tell my pal, that the least I will play one pocket for is $20 a game. One pocket can be long and difficult at $10 a game and I would rather win or lose $100 than to win or lose $40 after playing for two hours or so.

Anyway, I go sit down to watch two other locals playing pool and the stranger walks up to me and asks me to play some $20 one pocket. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him talking to my pal and I guess my pal told him I would play for $20. So we start playing and I win the break and break really well and he can't get out of my break and I win handedly. The next game the guy breaks not so good and I get out of the break and I'm up 7-2 shooting at any shot over a 50% chance of going. Now I am sitting in my chair watching my opponent try to make a comeback and one of the locals walks up to the table and addresses, my opponent; "You want to play some pool?" My opponent gestures to me and says, "I'm playing him right now". The local, who knows me well, then says rather loudly to me, "OH, I THOUGHT YOU WERE COACHING HIM". :(

We played one more game and I paid the time. My opponent was a nice guy and he could play some but he just never got out the gate. The Knock from Mars stunned me and my opponent. :D My opponent said he would be back next week to play some more. :thud:

I didn't say anything to the knocker and I am very sure he didn't mean any harm and he has no axe to grind with me. (We're actually on very friendly terms) Would you have said something to the Knock from Mars, afterwards?

I think you just let this one go. Or, at most, you might siddle up to him the next day and ask, "What was up with asking my man to play, mid-match?" At least that way you you can engage him in a polite conversation about it and, in a easy going way, let him know that any kind of invovement in your endeavors is not appreciated.

These couple things seem to the worst things about pool. What does it matter what this guy did unless you're scraping for dough like some road gambler. Everyone gets an opinion and that's mine.

A friendly wager to spice up a game is one of the bestest things about pool in general, and 1pocket in particular.

Since the invention of cell phones & the internet !

The days of anybody flying under radar are gone forever !

Not that's ok to knock others action but it's become part of the game !

Old timers lived by the code...new ones..not so much !

Everyone wants to feel that they are in the know !

Bottom line...knock,knock knock..who's there ? Mr pool detective !

It's just the way it is. In almost every pool hall I've ever played in there is at least one guy who will spill his guts to anyone that asks.

The last few years I've been traveling a bit and I've had the opportunity to play in rooms around the country. And now I'm getting the benefit of the flip side. Whether a room outside of Boston, or on the west coast in Santa Monica, I've had guys tell me -- with virtually no prompting -- in detail, who has been coming in, when they come in, who has played who and how, and what the bet was. The one good thing about it is that it makes matching up pretty easy. OTOH, I've also had guys shooting pictures of me with their cell phones during these "away" games, so I guess it's all good :-)

Yeah Joey your critique means a lot to me coming from a guy who stood up in the middle of the pool room and told a total stranger that you'd dump the tournament if he bet on you.

whose the hypocrite? doesn't get much lower than that in the pool room. you can see rock bottom from there. i'm just offering opinions you don't like. i don't pull nasty crap like that.

whose the hypocrite?

You're the hypocrite of course, M Lalum. There's no denying that. It's as plain as the words you write in this thread.

You love to spin a story from that high and mighty ivory tower you live in.

Why you will do practically anything to make your twisted point. You'll even change the subject because you're afraid to face the truth.

You'll even change a person's words....... It's really a low thing to do even from someone who lives in such a high and mighty ivory tower.
