I know that this is cursing in the church, but... why is Alex Pagulayan seen as one of the best players in the world?

He is a player that I noticed long ago for his Phillipino loose & creative style, but I always thought of him as a slightly subtop player. Ive seen great shots from him, but Ive seen him walking away from the table with his typical smile alot too. What makes him so top notch?

I tuned in just now so this comment is not about his play in the current game.
